This posts are titled ‘Aspire One.’It’s got the same touchpad as seen on the HP 2133 and what appears to be an 8.9″ screen. Images show a, probably linux-based, user interface. (Source Mobile 01)According to his information in that pag, Acer’s Mini-Note is called “Aspire One”, running Windows XP SP3 on the 8.9 screen with resolution of 1024 X 768. The ODM partner is Quanta, the main notebook ODM partner of HP, DELL and Apple. The source thinks “Aspire One” is better looking than Asus’ EEE PC, however, no photo release yet.Looks like it’s an Atom/Diamondville-based device. Digitimes mentions a 299 Euro price which is 100 Euro cheaper than the Eee PC 900!
I bumped into Michael Dell at All Things D after his interview, and he was nice enough to show me this laptop that he was carrying that he said no one's seen before. It's a small form factor notebook, just like the Asus Eee and the HP 2133. He wouldn't tell me what OS it's running, or the pricing, but that it's a low-cost notebook meant for developing countries, and I hope here. Maybe it's Atom-powered. Who knows? But I do see three USB ports, a card reader, VGA out, Ethernet, and that red candy shell. I couldn't tell how big the screen was before it was tucked away into a black sleeve and ushered from the building, but it's small. Update: Dell just released a pair of shots that add to the sense of scale, but no official name yet.

When MSI's Wind U100 nettop first popped up on U.S. retail sites earlier this month, the U100 versions with three- and six-cell batteries cost $479.99 and $499.99, respectively. However, Laptop Magazine reports that MSI has jacked up those prices. According to an MSI representative, "Since the cost of the battery and materials raise (sp), [MSI] had no choice but adjust the MSRP to $499.99 with 3-cell battery and $549.99 with 6-cell."As Laptop Magazine points out, a hike to $549.99 cancels out the U100's pricing advantage over Asus' Eee PC 1000H. The 1000H has similar specs (a 10" 1024x600 display, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, an 80GB hard drive, and a six-cell battey), and it currently goes for $549.99 at Newegg. But that's not the whole story.As it turns out, many online retailers are actually charging more than $550 for the six-cell Wind U100. Mwave lists the diminutive notebook for $599.99, while Microtel asks $599, and ZipZoomFly demands $559. Folks who ordered the system before the hike aren't necessarily better off, either. Laptop Magazine learned that Buy.com actually cancelled $499.99 orders when MSI announced the price increase "to avoid being de-authorized by this manufacturer."
