opinions on LG lcd monitors
« on: March 04, 2008, 09:23:10 PM »
so i in the market for a LCD... was lookin to bring one in, but i say lemme check local retailers

my eye fell on the LG L226wtq-bf. available at retailer X for 2650.. now.. i could bring in a 5ms Acer for 2000..

got a good review at http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,2133302,00.asp

but 1) is 5 ms compared to 2 ms and 2) if anything goes wrong within the warranty period, at least i could go into retailer X and strangle someone, as opposed to gettin blue in the face over the phone with a foreign retailer..

also, i can run out and buy the LG tomorrow and be watchin anime quite comfortably 20 minutes later...

both sport a simple design, which i like, and are sans-speakers.. which i also like

my real question, however, is to those who have LGs or used them, what's your opinion on them.. reliability , build quality etc

Ive never used an LG before but i've owned the Acer for around a year and I can attest to its quality.

Oh, response times are something manufacturers use to level chain up comsumers. Sure a 2ms sounds better than a 5ms one, but in reality, they all measure response time in their own way. Some measure black to white (which is what they're SUPPOSED to test and report) but they usually quote the much quicker grey to grey time so unfortunately, there's no way to tell who's touting g2g or who's touting b2w.

It all comes down to personal preference. Most people like yourself are more inclined to take the local retailer option which is always more expensive (by the by, the Acer al2216w will cost you $1800 landed tops if bought from the right retailer) or there are others who are willing and able to take the chance and bring in their stuff.

The choice is yours.

The review actually says '2ms black-to-white', but take note of this line: 'its handling of light-gray shading is mediocre at best.'

If you can find that same LG online, send the link to order@ttdirectbuy.com and see what quotation
they can offer to land it here for you.  You might actually be able to save quite a bit by importing it.

I have never purchased a 'gaming-grade' LCD in TnT, because the prices are way too high.

I also have one of those Acers that the goodly Cap'n is talking about, and its great for everything that us GATTers do (gaming, anime, pr0n, etc )

Consider this...the AL2216W is available from Newegg. At $230 and free shipping to your skybox, we talking about $1450. When I shipped my monitor, it cost $150 to ship in the country so that's $1600. So we have $200 play with if in case shipping cost are more than anticipated etc. It cost me about this same amount almost a year ago.

There u go.

actually, that acer from newegg was my first choice....  :-) but i thought the 2gs ttdirect offerin it for was a bit too much ( gettin a new gfx card through them from newegg)

seeing that capt and arc have it,and sound extremely pleased with it,  i figure i go take it,though

amazon have it for 218 ( but no free shippin)  so it should come up to around the same 1600 to 1800 as capt estimated

thanks guys!
