Mass Effect
« on: November 19, 2007, 12:28:33 PM »
IGN first review
9.5    Presentation
A new high mark for storytelling in games. Gameplay can be confusing at first due to a lack of good tutorials.

9.0    Graphics
One of the most artistically and technically beautiful games of all time. Unfortunately, the engine can't keep up and slowdown is rampant.

10    Sound
An unprecedented amount of top-notch voice work.

9.0    Gameplay
The RPG elements are outstanding. Glitches, poor AI, and weak squad mechanics weigh the game down.

9.5    Lasting Appeal
Sure to be a classic RPG that is talked about (and played) for years.

9.4
Outstanding    OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average

i am gettin this mufuggin GAME. mkay?

I was reading a review from Hardcore gamer on metacritic....didnt like it because.....FPS ppl would hate it.....mkay....so you are playing an RPG game and because it has guns its an fps? i see....so you put an FPS genre based person to review an RPG......that like giving a Nintendo fanboy HALO 3 to review when Brawl is comming out on the same day. U see the level of intelligence we gamers have to deal with when it comes to reviewers....some of them are kinda, how to say "really f*cking stupid"

Epic necro alert

Finally got around to playing this game (I'm only three years late) and can confirm it kicks every bit of ass.

awesome scifi rpg

I'd dare say it surpassed Advent Rising, my previous all time fav scifi epic.

Many times euphoria set in, bringing back memories of classics like Star Control 2 and Rise of the Dragon. Gaming doesn't get much better than this.

Well played Bioware. Well played.

For any other late adopters, keep in mind this isn't a 2010 game. It feels and sounds a little dated, just a little but that's to be expected. (what with it being three years old and all)

Still, easily a 9.5 out of 10.

Can't wait to sink my teeth into Mass Effect 2.

lol, I can't wait.

My only concern with the original is with the main story being so compelling and so urgent, there was little motivation to chase after the side quests.

Once I left the citadel, my primary focus was on Saren. Still, that was a good 20 - 30 hours of solid gameplay, so not complaining.

Dragon Age toed the line brilliantly by making "side quests" so integral to the storyline that you never felt like you were running around doing unimportant errands while the fate of the world hung in the balance.

Hopefully they managed to do more of that with Mass Effect 2.
