DBZ Movie (2008)
« on: November 18, 2007, 07:20:10 PM »
For anyone that cares about DBZ, there's supposedly a live-action movie coming out next year. There was a topic about this before but it hasn't been posted in for years so...

Quote
20th Century Fox has set Justin Chatwin (The Invisible, War of the Worlds) to play Goku and James Marsters ("Smallville," "Angel," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") as the villain Piccolo in Dragon Ball Z.

In the big screen adaptation, Goku is a powerful warrior who protects the Earth from an endless stream of rogues bent on dominating the universe and controlling the mystical objects from which the film takes its name.

Actor/writer/director Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle) is producing. Final Destination helmer James Wong will direct from a script he wrote. Ben Ramsey wrote an earlier draft.

The story is based on Akira Toriyama's popular manga that has spawned graphic novels, a long-running TV series and more than 25 video games. The Jump Comics division of Tokyo-based Shueisha published the "Dragon Ball" manga.

With shooting scheduled to begin later this month, Fox will bow the sci-fi/adventure worldwide Aug. 15. Chatwin has already begun training with 87Eleven, the stunt performance company behind the action sequences in The Matrix, The Bourne Supremacy,Mr. & Mrs. Smith and 300.

Piccolo wasn't a villain in DBZ.

Is it a DB movie, then?
What can you do to end the hunger?
It's no surprise that many will die with the coming shortage of food
When there is no grain to feed the butchered cows
When there is nothing to feed yourselves...
Then you will see that money can't be eaten.

Speaking about how bad this movie is going to be is in itself, ridiculous. We're just being redundant.

Actually, seeing a name like stephen chow doesnt make me that worried, would have prefered if he directed though. However, no one in their right mind should try and compare this to any of the anime or manga.... Think of this as a completely new story, cause otherwise you will be disappointed...

That's like the hope I got when I saw that Steven Spielberg was producing Transformers, maybe he would have the tyrant Michael Bay under control...but look how that turned out  :shakehead:

New details of the cast of the Dragon Ball movie were released today. According to Mexican TV gossip show Caiga Quien Caiga, the producers of the movie are looking to cast a few top Mexican actors for roles in the movie, which will shoot in Durango, Mexico. The strongest of these rumors comes as news that Camila Sodi, famous Mexican actress auditioned for the role of Bulma.

Should this rumor prove to be true I would do nothing but approve (unlike with previous castings) of the move as the resemblance in both appearance and attitude are an excellent match. Still this should be taken with a grain of salt, after all this does comes from a TV gossip show.

Wait... did a man diss Transformers in this thread? I have to say I too am more than a bit hesitant at this idea... but hey it they can make a rather entertaining (much better than I had imagined) movie about a 80s futuristic transforming TOY, then why the hell not... as for chinese influence on a japanese based manga, well I pose the question, how many fantastical action movies do you see coming out of japan compared to china? I think they have some idea about what they're doing, at least when it comes to the high flying action sequences.

I suppose that despite the fact that they're putting Z in the title, with Piccolo as the villain this is more of a Dragonball movie. Meaning their power hasn't gotten completely huge yet so maybe they could pull something off that doesn't look like Matrix Revolutions.

I'm not putting down money though.

Matrix was awesome, your mind just too small to comprehend. DBZ is a Japanese anime, Matrix is actually hailed in Japan as one of Americas great sci fi films, the plotline follows the anime theme (tragedy, last minute spinout of control, wierd twist at the end...etc etc). DOH get me started na. Actually no....start me :)

I think he was talking about the fight scenes.... Plot aside and everything, when I saw Matrix Rev, the last fight scene all I could think "this is how DBZ should look"

I was talking about the fight scene at the end. Take in a green sands and calm down.
The final fight in Rev was ridiculous. And not in a good way. All I was thinking was "oh lawd leave that s*** for Goku please"
