For power they'll join anyone. Mark my words. Mind, if they join with PNM their voters will probably HATE them for it.

We get new highways, rapid rails, water ferries, commercial farms <-- Hey not to shabby

But then again Aluminium Smelter, Water Shortages, Rising Crime and Food Prices and worst of all

the same promises that was not kept last term, and the die hard supporters who don't care.

It's indifferent to me, no party could have cleaned up the PNM's mess. Its good that they won.

Let them clean their own crap.

No sustainability behind that increasing economy though.
I hope the opposition parties are happy. Five more years. GG guys.

I just hope the special majority stays out of government hands, best we can hope for.

well, congratulations to all the COP supporters, you all really went out and managed to prove your point and did exactly what your financers expected of you. Manning gonna send dooks a 'thank you' card just now.

I have to agree with you on this. The facts speak for themselves. Its very funny how the COP was running ads that the UNC couldn't win a seat and look how things turned out.

election hog wash...

HEY I VOTED FOR CHANGE......we didn't win a thing but we managed to keep a two headed snake from running the country

I heard the UNCA is pretty pissed.....lol maybe just maybe certain fox like individuals will take the hint and realise that he needs to retire....

I'll be honest had kamala been the leader i would have been sporting my orange tee and jumping up to beenie and...who's the other guy?....Richie Spice. Thiefing a lil small wine here and there.

To answer Crix from this weekend free education has its props and yes it did work in Canada. But think about Canada in terms of geographical size and economy. They are begging ppl to come work there *thinking about taking up the offer* why? LOTS of jobs not enough ppl. Trinidad is the reverse. Yea we going to have alot of skilled individuals but it makes no sense having a degree in Computer Science and you crimping 50ft cables for a small time buisness.

Anyhow PNM win props to them, while i don't think they did the best they could've in the last five yrs somehow they did well enough so hats off.

UNCA *sniggers*

COP nuff respect to you/us cause i think while we did lose we actually had more votes in certain places than the UNCA so i think we in a small way showed that we wont stand for crap and dirty games and outcasts being re-casted and blimpes :D.

I love my country, emporer and all.

'election hog wash' you say.....

tsk tsk...I'm sorry but Eroo is right.  COP supporters were very naive to think that their party
would have been able to sway enough voters from the UNC-A, and to a much greater extent
the PNM, in any one constituency to actually win it.

'Voting for change' is an admirable notion, but the current racial, social, and religious differences
in TnT are too powerful.  The prevailing mindset of the population needs to change before they
realise that they can vote for it.

Increasing Economy?
That's debatable.

We're in a situation where inflation is rising. Milk couldn't be at a more abominable price level right now, and food prices right now are rising along with it. A box of chicken and chips is now between $21 to $24, where it used to cost $14 to $17 before. Our sugar industry is now sleeping with the fishes. We could have automated it and REALLY made some revenue off of it (as several other countries have done), but no. We done killed it DEAD. We are relying TOO heavily on imports nowadays, with companies such as Nestle doing so due to our local industries not meeting the required quota. Oil is also a commodity that is going up.

Chances are, if we don't subsidize our local industries and combat this problem soon, inflation will turn from steep to RUNAWAY. You don't want that s**t to happen.

On top of that, the job market can best be described as a can of sardines.
Very little room other than for those who are already packed in.
Unemployment may have dropped due to the introduction of programmes such as OJT and MuST, BUT, mind you, those are temporary solutions to a bigger problem. You will have experience under your belt, but it's finding a stable job that doesn't require constant renewal of your contracts that's the real challenge.

Let's face it. 'Economy is rising' may just be a fool's paradise for us right now, because, given the two points I've outlined above, it's clearly NOT sustainable in the long run. Rising prices and temporary stitches to unemployment are clear cut warning signs that the economy is about as sustainable as a balloon being slowly filled up with water. Sooner or later, that balloon is going to give way, and all of the problems we've patched up with spill all over the place, putting us back at Square One and probably waaaay before that.

As for free education, I can dig it, but let's not forget that this a****le government pulled GATE funding away two months before elections. My brother ran into some severe problems with that, and, as anybody could imagine, he's not too happy about that.

[/quote]

Hey gate was pulled from certain instituitions that were suspected of defrauding the ministry of millions of dollars and it wasnt a last minute decision, those rules were laid down since the inception of gate, and the schools would have been under investigation for a good while before action was taken.

In some cases the schools were cleared of fraud, but in others... well there are scheming people in this world, and the government was protecting the people of this country.

As for sustainability of  the economy, the pnm has been doing their development for the past 5 years and the economy has done nothing but rise. The price of oil has risen, so that means we get even more money than we anticipated earlier, and the government has also been investing in down stream economies to prepare the country for after the oil boom.
Yes inflation has risen, but that is expected when there is that much expenditure in the country.
Yes inflation must be dealt with and yes we need to deal with the importation issue.
But it will ALSO take expenditure to deal with that.

There is a formula for the amount of farm land that is needed per capita and frankly, i doubt we have that much arable land. So it will have to be created and maybe even high yield bio engineered foods may have to be introduced.

WE have enough land for our population for both food and housing but we MUST decentralize to realise this.
THere are issues yes!! no one is saying there arent, but the solutions take time.
Like xerotolerant said, its not a game, things dont happen in a snap.

For all their good intentions, i never actually heard any solutions from the COP.
just that manning have to go, and maybe they could have done better, but we wouldnt have known because they didnt push that enuff, they just like the unc, chose to focus on getting "the emperor out"

Crixx.....do you even read back half of the things you write, some times?
A little proof reading goes a long way, my friend.

In any case. I have one response to that 'the government was looking out for the people of this country' statement.

And that response is...SMELTERS.

Nobody wants it. It's a huge waste of money (so much for huge expenditure justifying inflation, huh?) and everybody knows that it is something that can cause great damage to the environment. Economic benefits are nothing when you're drinking metal in the morning.

Knock, Knock!

Who's there?

IIIIIIIT'S CANCER!!! AH-HA!!

Everybody's blatantly against this, and the Prime Minister virtually plugs his fingers in his ears and goes "Lalalalalalalalalala" and says we're getting not one, but THREE. Seriously, you'd have to be some kind of moron to do that s**t to people. 'Looking out'? My A**.

By the way, I'm sure everybody would appreciate it if you elaborated a bit more on 'decentralisation' as a means of securing food and housing. On another note, I'm ten times sure everybody would also like to know how somebody can say 'ECONOMY IS RISING' when the major plagues of an economy, such as inflation and over-expenditure are present. On top of that, the statement 'Economy is rising' is vague. Which aspects of our economy are rising?

Is our Gross Domestic Product up? (not if our local industries rely too much on imports, I doubt.)
Human Development Index reflecting a higher standard of living? (if you checked against inflation, you'd see that the answer is NO, because wages are yet to rise to meet inflation.)

Sorry. 'Economy is rising' is something that needs to be broken down and proven first.

By the way, you said we have more money.
Well....where is it?
You guys seriously keep talking about it and this oil boom, and still...nothing.
