I had to Vote P.I.M.P since I haven't lived in Trinidad since 2000 (although I went back on vacation in 03) and only get to hear biased opinions from the older heads so in all fairness I have No real Idea what's going on Politics wise.  The only thing I've been hearing from family is PNM is no good, corrupt and dragging the country down...but doesn't everyone say that about any political party that's in office? :(

from the perspective of many other people.... the negatives of the pnm far outweigh the positives...

yet i do acknowledge some positives the PNM have done...but not enough for me change my position...

Ok i'll take a snap at this one

Crime is another story
Housing is another cause what about ppl who want to build their own houses and have to face the HIGH prices in the hardware because the government housing sucking up all the building supplies $68 for one bag of cement...dang

Free health care don't mean shizznit if you can't get a bed in the hospital. wha..? Ever see a politician use the POS General or Sando why? CAUSE THEY KNOW BETTER

Free Education - props....sort of....but now every tom dick and larry (no offence laertes) has a degree....ok OJT...then what? You have to scramble and claw your way into a company...then to be faced with the horrible prospect of getting a contract rather than permanent employment. Free education is a right not a favor so is free health care.

Trouble in this place tonight........BAN....KAI

Job market is crap...makes your degrees useless because of all the competition. Fosters a brain drain, etc... things like that, I guess.
What can you do to end the hunger?
It's no surprise that many will die with the coming shortage of food
When there is no grain to feed the butchered cows
When there is nothing to feed yourselves...
Then you will see that money can't be eaten.

uh doesnt foster a brain drain since people have been leaving america to come back home for free tertiary education.
Creates a larger pool of skilled and educated workers for lots of fields.
Most importantly, provides a way out for poverty stricken individuals who  know that education is the answer.
Iam guessing people would rather we leave the masses ignorant and uneducated so that the top echelon of society can remain comfortable while the masses suffer...

and if it was such a bad idea then i guess canada is this horrible cess pool of free tertiary education and free health services... yea.. wat a disastrous place THAT must be...

What has PNM given us...??????

Dey never gave us free education, free medicine, cheap houses or anything like that...o crap i forget...they are the only ones who did......

UNC=corruption...sorry Panday+Jack Warner= Corruption+Dishonesty

I myself am not eligible to vote as yet...but if i cud I would vote for PMN...even though they've messed up alot its not as bad as the UNC....COP seems way too disorganised and extremist(the laptop thing for every secondary school student sounds like a dream that will NEVER happen)

Why do all these parties fight against each other...why cant we hav REAL unity in this blooming country....Thas d only way this country will begin to hav any kind of improvement. Sports is the solution for Crime....was anyone killed during the couple games we played in the world cup...I attended all the qualifier games and I felt proud...maybe for the first time to belong to this country...The mix of races was astonishing....ah well all this doesnt matter.....

Well unfortunately we're you're all gonna end up voting for the lesser more competent of the two evils..which is PNM

Underemployment, plain and simple. Those same people thinkign free education is a way out will be the ones to suffer them ost, having a degree does not guarantee a job. And before we even go that far who really thinks we have the infrastructural facilities to support free tertiary education for all? Has anyone been inside a UWI lecture hall in the past 2 years? anyone ever tried to get a parking space at SBCS on a weekend? we are not in ap osition to maintain free education for 1 primary reason, we do not have the infrastructure.

I've already spoken about underemployment but i will talk about it again. Anyone here converses with people in India at any point? Most people in India who pursue tertiary education have no choice but to at least get a Masters because having a BSC there is almost like getting a 5 O-levels. And alot of the poeple with BSC's have to scrunt before they get a proper job. Alot of people benefitting from Tertiary education thinking this will get them more money when they get jobs... not true at all! all that it ensures is that we will have a vast knowlege pool with an impressive human resource. But what good are potential Employees without proper Employers? who is going to hire all these pople who can get their degrees and pay them what they think they deserve?

Now with respect to the Canadian comparison: this brings up another valid point about the downside of tertiary education, in the end the money has to be piad from some source, andi n this case the money comes directly out of our treasury. What is being done to ensure that the money comes back in? better yet, what CAN be done? I Canada they could do free education because the tax every month for working residents is over 40% of your salary. Now while i would never want to pay taxes that are so exorbitant, i know why it is done, it allows the country's treasury to have a guaranteed amount of money coming in that will cover things like free health care (which is not 100% free btw) and free education.

nothing yu said about the Canada setup is discouraging.
There are socialist countries that have an even higher taxation rate than canada, get everything supplied for them and they are really happy. Alot of them work outside of their countries and pay their taxes to their country and thats a great thing, becuase they become so multi talented and educated they are highly sought after and enjoy a great life style.

I once again fail to see any point as to why free education is a bad thing!
or even better free medical care!

do yall think we should remove free primary and secondary school education as well"?  since free education is such a horrible thing
lets save billions in tax payer dollars by removing education for those good for nothing kids as well...

^errr i dunno bout that... it does make sense that he would improve this next 5 yrs...

But after that past 5yrs, vehicle getting stolen, best friend getting kidnapped (during the kidnapping surge)
second best friend dying because trinidad did not have the resources to conduct a special surgery....
Being robbed of a cell phone at movietowne...

not to mention the other things such as rising food prices that people complaining about for so long now...

So if you experienced all that above...a vote not for pnm might make the best sense....

I don't see how free education is a bad thing either. I certainly see the point of how it 'saturates' the job market with qualified people, devaluing degrees in the first place. But educating people in the kind of attitude and way of thinking it requires to get a degree is an achievement all of its own. Even if all we get is a workforce that comes to work with a more efficient mindset I'd say something positive has been achieved.

Something rather alarming I heard in class this week though. Our lecturer mentioned that free education and FTAA ddoh saddle horses as under FTAA governments that provide free education would be obligated to provide it to ALL FTAA members. So how's that gonna work...whenever FTAA gets running anyway.

As for my vote, I'm voting for a person rather than a party, I've had enough of party politics. PNM have no chance in this seat, COP running Manohar Ramsaran in Chaguanas West and everybody hate him. Frankly if it comes down to voting Manohar or Jack, it's gonna be Jack. At least Jack has a track history of being a proven administrator, I've more confidence in him lobbying for changes here than our present idiot. Plus having him in the House will be entertainment all of its own.
"Buy nuts from meh nah" @ Ken Valley. I nearly choke on my morning oatmeal when I read that.

So as much as I don't really like the way the party has become, it's UNC-A for me. If COP and UNC get a majority between them you know all a dem become one again anyway.
