HP DV6000 woes - Update: WTK Where to get GPU reflowed for DV6000
« on: September 17, 2007, 08:18:11 PM »
(I don't know why i didn't post this earlier here on GATT....but I desperately need help now :( )

Hi everyone,
I have a notebook purchased in Canada...
HP Pavilion DV6040ca...

About a month ago my HP Pavilion DV6000 notebook basically stopped working...
What I mean by this is that, I used it during the day...Turned it off...

When I turn it back on, I get a beep code...
1 Long Beep, Followed by 2 Short Beeps...

This I've researched is a Video Adapter Problem...

I called in HP, support... and guess what, my warranty had expired 3 days earlier...
I went through some troubleshoting steps with them..
They said to reseat the memory, hard drive...
Did them both... No success....

So I left the system alone for a few weeks...
One week ago, I just decided to turn it on...I did and the system booted up!!!
Got into WIndows, everything is working... Memory in tact... Hard drive files right where I left them....

I restarted it to see if it will work... There it goes again...Beep code...

Now what I need help with is if the problem is indeed my Video Adpater, which is an Nvidia Geforce Go 7200...
Can this be replaced without going through HP?

Another problem with my notebook was that the wireless LAN card (internal) went bad...
Can that be replaced as well?

And any other local suggestions, anyone know if someone can service it locally?

Thanks guys :)

Unfortunately, this problem means that you will have to dismantle the laptop
to get to the video-card, and 'reseat' that.

I didnt even know those notebook cards could be removed!!. If it can, do it, clean the contacts and replace. The wireless network adaper on the other hand can be replaced in a matter of 18.3 seconds

frig..never mind...the card is indeed integrated.....

So what do i do now :(

I was thinking though...since the card is considered integrated...it uses RAM right?
So on startup you think it tries to use the RAM?

and how do i find out if the ram not working?
I tried swapping the sticks..same problem...

I saving mailing to away as last resort....

my bad.. lol
i thought u were gettin sporadic blanks, not a full failure..

well, there's the ole 'trial an error', where u locate someone who has the same type of ram, and pop it in and see if sparks fly ( well. not literally)

ddr2 pc2-5300, in your case

Oh yes...very.  I had to dismantle the entire LCD portion of my Dell to replace a broken bezel.
You need to be very patient, and EXTREMELY careful.  There's lots of really delicate ribbon cables
all over the place.

VERY IMPORTANT!!!:  MAKE SURE you have the right size screwdrivers for this job.  You do NOT want to damage the screws
themselves, or the threading where they have to go back.  I don't really like dealing with laptops because its so very easy
to break something when taking it apart.  Just take your time and you should be OK.

I opened it up..and saw enough to know it was integrated...

Thanks for the manual link...but I already had it...and well the manual's troubleshooting steps state that the Mobo needs to be replaced...

Again..anyone know someone that can service this locally...Or should I send this thing to be serviced in Canada?
*shudders at thoughs of price for repair...*

(This notebook was so damn expensive already........sigh.....)

Oh sh!t look like I have to monitor this problem, I on a DV6000 as well! How long have you had it, and in that space of time, anything noteworthy happened(drops, crashes, general vista crap etc.)?

Disheartens you doesn't it?
I took care of my system like if it was my child...
No drops... System never crashed....
Running XP btw...
I did restore the system twice to factory using HP recovery for general maintenance and speeding up of XP...

What did happen though was that the Wireless Card just stopped working....3 months before this current problem..
I had to run a ethernet cable to my system for those months...

>>>
I tell ya man...I was using it all day... Ready to sleep..I turn it off...
but wait! I forget to load a new song on my iPod... So press the power button on the system right where i left it (2mins if that much from shutting down)...
>>> BEEP Code...

This is fricking sad man :(

My advice is to get the EXACT motherboard model and order it.  As its a bonafide computer part, you may not have to pay
any VAT and duty if you import it.  Since you know how the laptop comes apart, it should be easy to replace the motherboard right?

lol...well the manual has a step by step breakdown of parts.....

Lets just say removing the board is the last step....
i.e.... 100 pages of stuff...
Then gotta reverse that... freaky stuff!!!

*sigh*

I feeling to send this to HP and let them deal with it themselves...
I mean o lawd man... 3 days after warranty expire....
