For $100,000, I'd expect to be able to toss a never ending supply of coconut custard pies (with whipped cream) at him throughout the whole thing. And a SUV. Oooooooooh, BOY. Would I likes me one of those.

Yeah. I am really going to pay a hundred grand to sit down with some guy to shovel food in my face. Guess what.....I can do that in Subway for less than 30 BUCKS...and that's with extra cheese!! There is no way I am EVER going to pay that much just for food, unless it's to feed the starving children of Zimbabwe or something. You have to be out of your GOD DAMN MIND to even think about something so stupid.


Now, maybe if he offered to put some Grade-A morons like Colm Imbert or Gerald Yetming in a dunk tank filled with hydrochloric acid, and charge about 5 bucks a ball, I'd be into that. Its not just about food. Apparently the whole idea is intended towards gathering financial supports. So its an opportunity for all PNM sympathizers who have money for spite, (or those of whom get their breads buttered by being awarded government contracts) to dress fancy and rub noses with all the who's who on the political scene.

Well, in any case, the '$100,000' dinner has been cancelled.
Apparently, that whole state of affairs turned out to be as popular as a vomit gargling contest with the public, so, it's as good as gone.

Which leaves me to ponder....is the PNM trying to lose the next general elections, or something? I have never seen a political entity screw up so much since.....

I don't see the problem.
People are acting like nobody donates $100,000 to political parties. There's people who donate several times that, and I can name at least one.
This whole idea isn't a new thing.

Nobody who wasn't going to donate that kind of money is going to do so just for Patrick being there. It's just an opportunity for them to all hobnob at the same time.
Obviously they're doing it for political favour, but that's not something unique to PNM or even Trinidad. It's been happening for thousands of years in every administration to ever exist.

Everyone made too big a deal over this. "Donate the money to charity then!". Understand that this isn't a donation. It's an investment for the businesses that do this.

Yes, it might be an 'investment', but it just goes to show (rather glaringly) that politics only 'work' for the business elite.
The PNM, with their policies, have demonstrated time and again, that they hold big business in high esteem first, and then
the rest of the population as an afterthought.

The controversy erupted because of the amount that invitees were asked to pay.  Its true that this is not unique to
TnT, but this one was slightly overboard.  People are free to support any party they want, and donate what they
want, so to ask people to pay such an exhorbitant amount is tantamount to extortion.

Also the use(abuse?) of the title of the PM to advertise what was essentially a PNM shindig was dishonest at best.
'Conversations with the PM'?  HA!  It should have been called 'An evening with your emperor'.
There needs to be strict laws on party financing.  Its because of these so-called 'investments' that the rich
always seem to have things their way.  How come they never seem to 'ketch dey a$$' with no business venture.
Of COURSE that hefty 'donation' aint free.  Just look at the relationship between the UNC and Ishwar Galbaransingh.
Look how that turned out too.

All this 'dinner' has done thus far is cement the perception in the common man's mind that the PNM is a greedy,
corrupt band of politicians that just want to see about themselves and their rich financiers(cronies?), so they
can fill each other's pockets, while the populations needs seem not quite as important.
