no mo torrents on Lisa....

I had been downloading and seeding torrents for just fine and dandy until about a week ago. After some digging, I have discovered that my ISP has supposedly always blocked torrents....and now evidently are doing so effectively.

I use Azureus and tell it to use protocol encryption and randomized ports each time I start the program. I am assuming that this is the reason I have managed to float beneath the radar for as long as I have. Well, they have evidently outsmarted me in some way...though I'm SURE somebody knows a way around it (HELP PLEASE!)

What is happening at this point is two things...first...

When I click on the "download torrent" tab, nothing happens....it just times out....

Secondly, torrents which were already started don't do anything either...they just sit there.

I would assume from the first item that they have found a way to prevent all files with a .tor extension from downloading...but that's layman conjecture on my part....

Any ideas? (besides the one saying "heh, you're screwed man, switch to flow."

If indeed your ISP has initiated a smart system to block torrents then no Torrent client will work. If its using traffic signature based content filtering you're pretty much screwed. If not then another client MAY work (though I doubt). As Disc said, switch providers. Hey TSTT supposedly coming with 1Mbps packages if you believe that kinda thing XD

You can encrypt your packets.  Once you do this it becomes impossible for any ISP to block torrents.  OR you can forget Lisa and TSTT and go with flow.

Try flow u get excellent speeds  take the 512k package,  u pay about $390 a month fist time installing is$144 modem. $475 no ports are blocked
all sharing ports are open except i thing some udp ports are blocked, but hey it works sweet.

Sadly, I have not encountered this before, but why not simply ask someone at Lisa if this is the case (seems like a crazy idea, I know)
and politely request that this 'block' be removed.  You're paying for the service aren't you?
I think its worth a try, especially if you're paying.

heh.  I DID ask a tech at Lisa...he told me that they have ALWAYS blocked Torrents that it is against their user agreement because it utilizes too much bandwith....

this got me to thinking...if it had always been blocked, then why was it working for me?  I tried again clearing off all cookies...cache...etc.....to no effect....I randomized my port in uTorrent (which I had forgotten I had switched to anyway) about 60 times....cleared cache and cookies again....and both aspects started working again....was able to click on the "download" buttons and my torrent downloads were working again...

I'm not really sure what was going on...but it's up and working again....btw....the download button wasn't working in either opera, thunderbird, or crappy explorer.  *shrug*  I dunno man.  But at least its all good now....

W1N, u still haven't told me when u wanna organize to pick up dat dvd from meh...I'll be out of pocket for about 17 days though...work sending me to Idaho....
