Myspace deletes 29,000 sex offenders

MYSPACE ADMITTED there were around 29,000 registered sex offenders with profiles on its website. It says it has deleted all of them.

Mind you, only a couple of months ago, the firm said there were only 7,000 convicted sex offenders on its site, which boasts something like 180 million profiles.

All the newly-deleted 29,000 were thought to be U.S. based, so there must be thousands of sex offenders out there lurking in other lands.

In a statement, chief security officer for the firm, Hemanshu Nigam, said it was "pleased that we've successfully identified and removed registered sex offenders from our site and hope that other social networking sites follow our lead."

However, if the 29,000 deletees are "convicted" offenders then they must surely have done their time, so repaid their debt to society for whatever crimes they committed. What's it got to do with Myspace, we wonder? Is it in the terms and conditions? No perverts.

Meanwhile, founder of rival networking site Facebook, 23-year-old Mark Zuckerberg, is in court today facing allegations that he nicked the idea – and some code – from ConnectU.com, a university-based social network he worked for as a programmer four years ago.

Zuckerberg denies trhe charges asked for the case to be dismissed.

Well its obvious that lots of sex-offenders would end up on these social networking sites.  Where else would they find
such a virtual 'buffet' of potential victims.  They certainly could not do it in person.

So yeah, good move there.
