AHEAD OF THIS this week's E3 convention in Los Angeles, a video has sneaked its way onto the interwibble showing PC-exclusive footage of top Xbox shooter Gears of War.

The game has long been tipped to appear on the PC DX10 platform, and this video all but confirms that E3 will have the details. The video, which showed up on Gamevideos.com and has since made it onto YouTube, shows the Gears gang fighting a new enemy called the Brumak, which didn't appear in the original 360 version.

Gears is based on the Unreal Engine 3, and will be one of the first major titles to appear on the PC with this engine, Rainbow Six: Vegas being the first and the new Unreal Tournament possibly being the second, depending on whether Epic can actually get that finished some time this year.

The game was really designed for joypad controls, being rather more arcadey than your average PC-centric FPS, and so it remains to be seen how well the controls will ranslate to mouse and keyboard. But that aside, we suspect there are plenty of GeForce 8800 owners drooling over the prospect of getting this going on their 24" widescreen monitors - never mind the fact their graphics card cost more than an entire Xbox 360 console. Who needs value when you have a big-ass gaming rig? µ

 

I do so laugh at the last comment about having a vid card that's more expensive than the console to run it on presently...

Damn DX10 exclusive that is some real Sh*t how they gonna expect to sell the product to gamers the average gamer does not have a pc that powerful isnt it a little bad for marketing? or are they trying to influence a new era in pc gaming and basically telling gamers u need to go get these cards its the new generation lol

Well honestly GOW is NOT for the hearsay PC gamer... cause its  NOT for the weak on the 360 honestly. That games eats up the 360 resources hence multiplayer is only 8 players ATM. That game has SO much eyecandy that you NEED power to play it to begin with... to play it on anything less than 1080i or 1280x1024 would be a Tragedy... so I honestly cyah say it being DX10 only is such a bad thing.

 You'd be surprised how much , unlike in Tdad PCs abroad actually have the option of medium to high end graphics , so by the time it comes out next year, the average pc will have a Geforce 8600 or 9600 , and hardcore gamers Geforce 9800s and 8800s...
      Even though the 360s graphics chip is 'only' about X1900 level in raw specs and power,  a PC will need more power to get similar frame rates ie. 8800gtx .

Trini is right there, a PC generally needs more power to run at a similar level of gameplay and detail as it has a million other processes running unlike a console which is built to do just 1 thing... game. That aside a PC will be able to tone the detail down to get playable framerates but to do something like that to GOW is just WRONG.... as for sales, you'd be surprised how many ppl will buy it and run it at lower res. I am not saying you CAN'T run it, just it'd be doing an injustice as that game in addition to interesting gameplay is really all about the eye candy. Without the candy its just NOT the same...

Case in point (as an addendum to what W1ntry said): DiRT

The game looks/runs absolutely FABULOUS on the PC, and gets a slight edge with respect to the graphics,
but ONLY because its running on an 8800 GTS.  Anything less than that and it will run, but it wont look quite as well
as on the Xbox 360.  I wish there was a way to get Xbox 360 screenshots so I could do a real console-to-PC
graphics comparison...

WHY a n*gga musn't have no money!!?  We have COD4, Crysis AND Gears Of War coming out in SAME MONTH!!?

acquiring it at this moment ,  a couple reviews are up , a few changes from the 360 version :
the weapons have more recoil to compensate for the superiority of mouse+keyboard

5 more missions to add more gameplay , a new boss

slightly improved graphics .

Poor crixxx, time to step up and get some Core 2 Quad kit meng. That aside I should 'aquire' this as well just to see... what are the min system requirements? since UT3 demo runs quite well I would expect this to run quite well on my PC as well

Well I just installed it and took a little run. Sweet game.

A few corny lines but we could 'llow them that. The action more than making up for it.

I real laugh at the default settings on my rig though. 600x450 resolution, everything off. lol

Not even a little bump mapping self. The game was looking like Quake 1.

Manually increased the res to 1024x768 and set all graphics options to medium. Game looks tons better but now it frames no mc when anything big is going on.  (small spoiler alert ***---- Like when the spider thingy came out of the ground on your way to the chopper)

mano y mano fire fights are doing ok frame wise.

Like wintry says, playing this game with anything less than maximum eye candy is going to be an injustice, one that I am still willing to make though, lol

Would wait until the christmas upgrade to beast GOW but the game too sweet. Medium settings immc.

Appreciate them allowing it to run on XP and Directx 9. Good people that they are. Vista can continue to haul it's mc.

just 'acquired' it yesterday, really looks gorgeous on max, no hitching nuthin,

hate the controls on my logitech cordless tho, much rather keyboard config...anybody wanting a controller for this, ensure you get a 360 controller or nuthin, thankfully he keyboard config is well nigh perfect.
