How to mod an IBM T-41?
« on: July 06, 2007, 09:04:59 AM »
The link is the specs for the IBM
http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/lenovo-thinkpad-t41-2379/4507-3121_7-30567436.html

I want to know if I can install more RAM
Would I have to change the motherboard to suit?
Is it possible to upgrade it to be able to run games?

Thanks.

just go to lenovo's site -> support, type in the serial number and/or model number and they'll tell u what parts you need for upgrade. no motherboard change is necessary. Best upgrades:

Change HDD to a 7200rpm hdd
Change battery to a 9 cell
Add more RAM

(i have a t40)

Yes you can install more ram. There should be a free SO-DIMM slot in which you can put a 1gb stick or you could look for 2 512mb sticks. Just check IBM direct or your favourite retailer for pc2700 SO-DIMM DDR memory.

As for games, games as recent as NFS Underground and earlier will run decently. Forget about anything newer because theres no way to upgrade.

yeh, is a real top machine, but it aint  meant for games..

the graphics chip is probably onboard, so yuh cah change it... and is not like laptops use standard motherboards right thru..   yuh might be able to PERHAPS use a motherboard from a different model in the series, but is far from the norm

You'll definitely want to get the maximum RAM available for any laptop (i.e. 2GB)

What's the real "deal breaker" is the laptop's GPU. You can't upgrade that like you would a PC.

A better battery can't hurt either.

As for the screen size, if it's meant to be a desktop replacement, you may want to invest in another Monitor so you can hook them up and get a better gaming experience.

nah we know the t41 have some age.. had the 42, 43, 60 and 61 after :-)

anyway..  how much ram you have now, and also, is it spread between both slots?

open it up .. should be a lil compartment underneath with a tiny engraving lookin like a block of ram

Meet Crixx, Dell's unofficial #1 Trinidad cursader.

A lappy with those specs eh go be so cheap though, at least not in Trini. Not even outside. For a desktop, however, you can look for the cheapest system you can find with a PCI-E slot and slap in a Nvidia 7300 or something. Cod running buttery on that.

Oh yeah...a cod playing chick?? Someone pinch me.

yeh but even a cheap system may be beyond the  budget....

is a far stretch in price from just a  ram upgrade.

you might be able to run the original COD.. but barely..
