Well I hope his current partition size is the same or smaller than 111gb else he's gonna have a rude awakening if he tries to apply an image with a larger logical size to the ssd. Is reinstall ihmc.

I'm well aware of this, so that ain't news.

Well I hope his current partition size is the same or smaller than 111gb else he's gonna have a rude awakening if he tries to apply an image with a larger logical size to the ssd. Is reinstall ihmc.

...and I anticipated this, so that's why I used an 80 GB drive.

Really guys... :shakehead:

I seldom purchase anything that expensive without poring over reviews for a week before.

All of the reviews peg this drive as the best performer in its price segment,
and that's good enough for me.  I still wish it was a tad cheaper though. :(

The good thing is if the price drops down to about 120 US or so, I can get another for
some serious SSD RAID-0.  :)

a boy, a next man getting old. lol

I remember the youthful days when BIOS updates were done almost weekly.

Haven't updated any of my bios (except for the wireless router) in about three years. lol

One SSD installation and firmware upgrade later...

I wont get the read/write speeds advertised because I'm using a SATA II interface, but its faster than what I had before...

RAID-0

...and just for comparison's sake, here's the performance of one of those RAID drives (Velociraptor 80 GB @ 10K rpm)...

The numbers don't tell the whole story...but you already knew that.  :)

It's truly 'magical' to see your Windows desktop fully loaded just 35 seconds from pressing the power button.
Oh how I wish I could afford to upgrade ALL my hard drives in this system now.  Everything associated with the OS,
and files on the SSD open with near instantaneous aplomb.  Windows shutdown takes NINE SECONDS!!!

Office 2010 installation took just 7 minutes.

What-the-actual-f@#k!!?  :awesome:

I am impressed.  The WEI score for disk access jumped from a respectable 6.2 to a beastly 7.7.

Installation was a breeze, thanks to Acronis (once again).  All I had to do was clone the drive, disconnect old HDD,
reboot, upgrade firmware, reboot again.  No muss, no fuss.  Windows started right up like first time.  No BSODs, no issues.

GG Corsair.

It may not be as fast as the Crucial, or Intel drives, but I expected that.  Those drives are significantly more expensive.
You get exactly what you pay for.

Now is just to wait for 500 GB SSDs to come down in price.  :laughing7:

...and so the rig has evolved again.

The saga continues...
