umm the one card is two cards(two gpus on one board).. it must equal the performance and trounce ah single 4870... that's why it's called a 4870X2..  :icon_scratch:

I know this, but I was just making a direct comparison, raw numbers-wise.

:laughing7: LOL @ 'coconut bake'.

I will certainly try out the 8.10 driver when I get home.  8.9 caused games (and Windows) to crash for some inexplicable reason,
so I had to go back to 8.8 with the 4870s.  Lemme see if they improve anything with this new driver.

I'll get back to you on that.

Good call arc. i woudla be getin bul and din realise what causing it.

Phoenix, doh worry, I will fix you up personally (as soon as power comes back by me and DSL is restored. :))
We have to talk some more about that piece a Crossfire black magicks that you work there.

arcman, you have 4 major problems why u din get d same results as phoenix.

1. You CPU Overlcok. ppl dont realise how much a slight OC on yuh cpu does affect yuh 3dmark score.
2. Could be power supply related. When dem gpus ent get enough juice is terapy.
3. You OC on d GPU. If you try to push d card to far, wihtout raisin d voltage of d card. you wil actualy get worse performance. phoenix did just that and get worse performance. so i tel him d clocks not to cross to maintain good results. When u raise d clocks to high wihtout raisin d voltage is terapy again.
4. Cooling. So you  need to take a look at yuh case, and wiremanagement, to acheive proper airflow.

It have 2 common ways to raise yuh voltage. dies either by a hardware voltmod. or by bios moding.
Both of which dangerous. wil void your waranty. and you coudl easily brick your card. so do it at your own risk. and if u volt mod. be very sure, u have aftermarket cooling. to back it up.

ok arc lets look @ the whole situation...

for 1 ur crossfire (stock) scores wasnt as expected... and also the x2 (stock) scores are not as expected... so its not the card... and its the heat because @ stock heat shouldnt be too much of a problem...
so we hadda look @ your other components...

CPU: yes i think its a MAJOR issue... when i was runnin the single 4870 my cpu went from 3.4 to 3.6 and my scores went up by 500 points (thas 200mhz for 500 points) so i think ur cpu is one bottleneck as far as 3dmark goes
Mobo: Cant be because we have the mobo
Crossfire bridge: i used d 2 (i dunno if u did)
Ram: I consider my ram better but i dont think it should affect performance that much
PSU: as matthew say the power supply can have a significant impact... not just the wattage but the quality of power, not sure what psu you have.

all these different little things can combine to significantly hurt ur scores... but i think the major one is the cpu...

...
just a lil correction with matthew post... i got better performance on the oc... but nothing that would warrant overclocking... about a 200points...

Ahhhh...this is what I like to see. Constructive criticism.

As for power...not an issue.  At least not with a Cooler Master Real Power Pro 850W at the helm.
As for the CPU OC, I have hit a wall at 3.3 GHz,  anything more than that will require more advanced cooling.
GPU OC'ing is a touchy subject for me.  I dabble in it, but never as hardcore as the good Captain (and yourself) is wont to do.
As expensive as these cards are...I will NEVER attempt to volt-mod or reflash em, unless something is wrong and that's the
only means of rescue.  So that out.

As for case, I have almost outgrown my Thermaltake Armor Jr.  I need something bigger.  Christmas bonus will fix that. :)
Might probably 'wet my feet' with CPU watercooling as well.  I am very open to recommendations in that regard.

nah man... my case is prolly same size as yours (correct me if i'm wrong)...
and yuh cant just throw in liquid cooling and oc the same q9300... its a chip limitation

i'm strictly air on everything and look @ my overclock and my temps... and scores for that matter...

u should be able to achieve the same thing as me we have alot of the same type of parts (cept for the cpu)

and as i said before... because is 850W doh mean is a good psu (voltage quality ftw) i cant comment on cooler master as i never reviewed them tho
