Captain, Brace for Epic Velociraptor win.

Another upgrade rolled in last night, this time in the form of a 300gig Western Digital Velociraptor. (In case y'all didnt know this before, upgrades dont only come in the form of new cases, cpu's and video cards. Hard drives are important too. They are the weakest link in your system)

I'll let these comparisons between it and this 320gig Seagate 7200rpm do the talking.

Bottom one is the Velociraptor, top is the Seagate.

That's over 60% more performance with just one drive...

Well with a mtbf of 1.5 million hours and a 5 year warranty, i'm not expecting to have to measure its exact dimensions for a fit in a coffin.

I'll install Warhead, and ive already installed Hell's Highway so I can give some feedback on load times.

Well...psu IS very important but apart from that, performance wise, the hdd is generally that slowest part of the system.

oh thats what u mean by weakest link...
well in that case yes it is... but the impact that it has on the system means that it can be "allowed" to lag behind

OK, now I understand what you mean (performance-wise).  I suspect the only reason Vista gimme a 5.4 for storage and not a 5.9 is
probably because I not using one a them l33t drives. :)

It IS possible to have a dual fan configuration on it but not in the conventional manner. Youll have to attach the fan on the other side with sticky tape or something.

As far as cooling goes, I get around 43-45 idle and 59-60 load at 3.3ghz.
