You know when i was convinced on SSD?

I bought ah small 40gb SSD for my netbook.
And i felt so ashamed, when my netbook booted, responded, and was generally snappier and faster, than my 4.9GHz, 12gb Ram beast computer.

After that i say nah, GG, SSD ftw. Couldnt have my lowly laptop feeling snappier than my beast rig.

After that it was downhill for me and ssd.
Arc talking juss like me before i saw d light.

Arc, so many of us singing praises for SSD and you still need convincing??

balking @ US$179.99??? Like the diapers really hitting your wallet hard.

I know how it is.

Don't worry, soon we'll get you enough PJs to put the "PC Enthusiast" back in your wallet.

Taking a page out of Chronic3ne's book. lol

Don't get me wrong...not for a moment am I questioning the tech itself.  That has been proven time and again.

I just find the prices are still way too prohibitive when compared to the cost of a regular HDD.  I would have thought that by now, SSDs would have been 'mainstream' enough that the prices would come down.

It's insane that the average cost of a measly 64GB SSD is nearly 120 US, and a 128GB nearly 200.

Unfortunately, if people are willing to buy em at those prices, the prices just won't come down.

Bottom line: just too expensive.  Still.

Some might say '...but you is not the same man who buy a headset for 200 US?'  True, but that headset can be used on more things than my PC, so the versatility speaks for itself.

I agree with Arcman somewhat. Price not justified to me just yet.

Im not that much into benchmarking, and I don't seeing the need to have my pc booting or loading applications in the blink of an eye. More hard drive space with a decent speed is good enough for me atm.

arcman, I was actually receptive until you mention the US$200 headset. lol

THAT is way too expensive. You self.

Shame shame.

And you want to call "cost prohibitive" on 128GB of greased lightning for a PC that will bleed performance into pretty much every single task you do on that computer??

Outside with yuh hypocrisy eh.

Ahhhhh boy! Nothing like the smell of new parts and benchies in the morning.

It would have been interesting to see a direct comparison with the two 460's in SLI on the new board vs the 680. Then there would be no guesswork in terms of how much of the score was assisted by the new CPU.

What do you say Captain? if you still have the 460's... bench them on the new board... for research purposes   :sassy:

oops!!!!! didn't read lower down with the processor. Had my glasses on teh second time!!!

I'm confused

Isn't that 26820 a lower score than your previous 27,619 on Vantage?

Higher score was with 2 cards, this one with just one and less oc on the cpu.

...and the scores are within 'spitting distance' of one another.

So with a 2nd 680 and/or a new platform (X79), we looking at a possible definite return to the top ten for Awesome.  (Top 5 maybe? :))

Ooops! put my glasses on and read the full spec sheet from the benchmark run; wow! That card blazing.

Arc is correct, with a second card, x79 / intel 2011 or both a 'me too' system or two gonna get bumped out of the top ten.

You can use this site Prowl to monitor where and when they come in stock http://www.nowinstock.net/computers/videocards/nvidia/gtx680/

Awesome sniped one off of amazon. They only last maybe a hour if so much when available on amazon and we talking around 510-30us not the ridiculous prices of 600us and above you seeing now....
