anyone using an edge data sim?
how fast is it? what kind of real world download speed do you get? i was told by a tstt rep that alll previous mpower unlimited internet accounts have been automatically upgraded to edge and that i just need an edge capable phone thinking of buying one but only if edge is a whole lot faster

Well, I HAVE an mpower unlimited sim, but I recently received a text message (from TSTT) saying that the EDGE PC card (i.e. for laptops) was available for a 'special' price of $799. No details on monthly fees though.

I will definitely have to look into this EDGE thing with my sim though. I'll let you know.

I got similar text from tstt.

I have no issue with edge's SPEED (near DSL speeds),

but WTMC is up with a $799 tag? and how much monthly?

I wonder if it has anything to do with TSTT not giving out EV-DO cards till further notice due to the internal accounting fraud?

Well, if I gettin a free upgrade to EDGE, I takin it, and HOW exactly I gettin EV-DO?
Remember it not available to the public yet, and from the looks of things, it may never be.

EVDO IS available to the public as I know several ordinary people who have it. People who dont have access to DSL (too far away from exchange) are given this thing pretty easily apparently.

Well, I just found out from TSTT self that the card itself is of the 'Type II' variety, so all those new Dell laptops
(like *sniff* mine) cannot use it, as they use the 'Express card' type expansion cards.

So that out. Ah find the price kinda steep too.

^ thas de link for the specs of the card...the type II is still pcmcia, just a different version from type I.... which means that this will not work with laptops with express card slots....sucks :angry:imagine express cards slots suppose to be the new standard but yet is hardly any cards supporting this.

EVDO slow like hell for me....

< 10kb/s 90% of the time using it....

the next 10% is < 20kb/s

if yu have slow speeds with evdo
i think yu need to take it back to tstt and ask them to check it out

ive personally worked with atleast a dozen evdo boxes and cards ( more than that actually) and ive never had to go thru any depressing slow speeds

as for edge

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL if anyone here actually thinks they gonna get anything near dsl speeds on the edge devices

nah the 799 is for the pc card edge is 150 a month unlimited but crixx how fast is it 128kbps? 256? dial up? the rep claims that once you are close to a cell site you get speed comparable to residential dsl for less than half the price

c'mon someone I wanna know too? 128k? 256k? dialup?..wats de speed ppl would get in the pos/woodbrook area?^^any dropped speeds(worst than dialup)? I startin skool in sept and need somthin faster that this wretched dialup..de skool ill be goin said i cud sign up for evdo wih them but is like a waiting list i hadda go on...but the price for it kinda steep for me at the moment..buh if I could get even a 300k +or- ah would force n get it....but if edge cud offer me like say 120k-200k thereabout for $150 then that would be the scene to go with...so I'd really like to know

In the woodbrook area, edge gives me dial-up speed...at best. The connection sometimes cut off without warning and generally, the service aint so good. It doesnt get much better in other areas either.
