HELP!!! linksys wireless router and TSTT paradyne modem
« on: June 05, 2007, 04:22:46 PM »
I'm trying to set up a linksys wireless router WRT54G............its all connected properly but it refuses to connect to the internet.
I used the CD and chose the DHCP settings an it keeps saying that the router cannot connect to the internet.

Anyone have any ideas that will work, on what to do?

I left the DHCP settings in the default........is there something I should change?

did u plug the modem into the right ethernet port, also go to the status page and see if u accuried a default gateway and also an ip from the modem.

almost forgot if your using the paradyne modem u will have to assign a different ip to your wrt54g like 192.168.2.1 or above that as the router and modem use the same ip.

Aite fellas hear what happen.............the problem was that the modem is to be pluged into the lan line port. So the port that says INTERNET PORT does not work with this config. That a TAD gay.  :awesome:

So everything is running smooth now

THANK YOU Slaming
but the daarknite saved me.......no not batman.

I'm trying to setup my wireless with a Linksys WRT54GL router and the Paradyne modem from Blink... when I run the setup wizard from the cd I keep getting a message saying that it failed to connect the internet.
Can anybody please help with what settings and what not I should select?

Firstly make sure all connections are connected properly..
i.e. Ethernet cable from paradyne modem plugged into Internet Port on linksys router..
And Ethernet cable from Slot 1 running into PC's Ethernet Port..

Run the set-up...
If that fails
>

Its possible the the IP of the Paradyne Modem is conflicting with the Linksys router...

Open your web browser, type in 192.168.1.1

Navigate the linksys interface and change the IP to something else such as 192.168.1.2

>>>
Rerun the set-up and see if that works...

Having both router and modem with the same IP is asking for trouble. Best practice is to unplug one device, configure its IP to something else and then reconnect.

Ok I tried all of it and it doesnt seem to work.. I'm at a loss at what to do really. First time I'm setting up something like this. During the setup wizard for the Linksys I'm supposed to chose DHCP right?

yes you're supposed to choose dhcp....

hmm... Did you do as captain awesome said?

>>.
Make sure the IP on the linksys router is different...

And well unplug all the equipment... Paradyne and Linksys...
Also restart your pc... then power on the paradyne and linksys router...

And try again..

like the guys are tellin you, first, change the default IP addy of the Router to something other than 192.168.1.1, then connect the modem to one of the regular ethernet(LAN) not internet(WAN) port of the router. next,  disable the DCHP Server on the Router. and voila! this worked for me. but after you make these changes, best thing is to unplug the pc from the router(LAN) or restart the wireless if it's a laptop, so you refresh the IP assignment. good luck with that, networking is FUN!

Ok you need to tell us the steps you actually did...

Confirm if you did change the IP on the linksys router...

Confirm where and to what the ethernet cables are connected..

Its a simple problem that alot of people get...I had this problem 3 months ago when I both my LInksys WRT300N router...
It was the IP address that was the problem..
Give us some details and we'll get you through this :)

Ok I'm sure its hooked up properly...
CAT 5 running from paradyne modem to internet port on the linksys
and another cable running the first LAN port on the linksys to the ethernet port on my PC.

I went to the settings for the Linksys once it was connected to my PC and changed the IP to 192.168.1.2
then I unplugged it, connected the paradyne to it and plugged it back in.
As for the steps I did in terms of the setup wizard from the cd.. I get to the step where I have to chose DHCP and then when I next it.. it eventually returns an error saying the router is unable to connect to the internet..
I also tried disabling the DHCP server option in the linksys settings but then I got the limited connectivity error from my LAN and an error saying that and IP wasnt assigned by the network to my PC. So I set one for my pc, 192.168.1.100 and then well it connection icon in the tray said it connected but again when I ran the wizard no dice..
reset the linksys a few times.. still nothing.. restarted a few times.. powered on everything in different sequences lol hoping the DHCP on the paradyne would assign an IP to the linksys and still nothing..

Just try connecting the modem to any other port except the internet port on the Linksys and re-run the setup again. Some Linksys routers are weird like that.

So to recap: From modem into ordinary switching port. Then see if you're getting connectivity.

Then probably something is wrong with that router. Try another and see if the same problem occurs. You can also try updating the firmware.

Changing the ip from 192.169.1.1 to 192.168.1.2 will not help you since both modem and w/router are still using the ip range, which is causing a conflict. You will have to change either the paradyne's ip range or the linksys

1. Locate the LAN http://192.168.1.1/lancfg2.html change ip in link if necessary

2. Locate the IP Address Field

3. Change the 192.168.1.1 3rd octet in the ip address to anything that is not 1 or > 255 eg 192.168.5.1

4. Click the save and reboot button then connect router to modem, and enjoy your internet

PM me your public ip address and modem username/password i'll login and see what up, don't send me your internet username password
