my question is without LAN how tourneys gonna take place with SC2?
cuz the tourney scene in Asia with SC is huge so this might be a blow for them too

shitty idea imo droppin LAN
a pc game without LAN is like blasphemy
especially a big game like SC.

LAN > Online
i'll take a LAN party anyday over an online sweat, cyah beat da interaction an ole talk in person.

Starcraft 2 may be closer than we thought:

The last blurb is what's important.

Honeslty i've lost all the hype and excitement for this game... Blizzard does DRAG things out to RIDICULOUS levels... GOSH... release the damn game already... and the whole lack of LAN play...WTF... either way if they released this game TOMORROW it would make no diff to me now cause i've just lost interest. Hopefully they'll reignite the HYPE campaign closer to release, however release before Diablo 3 doesn't really even warrant a glance cause MW2 is all I can see.

So true. I can't really care anymore and the fact that you have to buy 3 separate games. booooo!

they take out lan play, cuase men like we like to pirate, nfs have no lan either, and i suspect, less and less games wil have lan, given the current availability of dsl connections. (dey not caterin for trinis with shitty blink broadband).

And the buyin the 3 games thing - you get all d races with d first one, so multiplayer wise, who cares if dey release 5. And each release is it's own contained story, so if u dont want to buy d other releases juss dont. But im sure blizzard wud treat them as expansions, whcih means, few new units for MP, low pricetag for the actual purchase. We go see, and if SC2 release Tomorow, i takin vacation one time.

Low pricetag... like WOW? wait... there aren't any LOW cost 'expansions' to WOW. I think blizzard is studying ONE things and ONE thing only, bottom line. Could the constant delay of SC2 have ANYTHING to do with the possibility it will affect WOW sales... hmm to suggest that would be wat? heresy XD. Still I think the steam system would better serve the curb piracy. Have a platform like Steam to do online verification and then after that LAN SWEAT. What is SO hard about that? And who you pointing that PC game pirate finger at? I sweat predominantly on the console and I gots to BUY all those games :p

steam is a good system, but it cant totaly stop piracy, Dawn of war 2 uses the steam system, and men still pirate it, and runing it over hamachi. Once the game has lan, man wil find a way to pirate it for play with other users.

And yea, i know blizzard out to make money, can u blame dem? you would do d same thing lol.
But the orignal starcraft was epic, and if this one is what it seems to be, then d men deserve d money dey trying to make. but battlenet 2 have some dread features in true, that blowing out windows live.

And if all the things dey mentioned, works as dey say it does. Then it go be wicked.
And i pointin d pirate fingure at pc gamers in gerneral. RE5 not released yet, and men runing it online already lol.

Well I can only hope all the features as good as you make them seem, cause to dish out and then suffer lag with (as you put it, no cater TSTT CRAP BLINK) would be most frustrating. I hope a 'service' is a free french maid bartender XD so while I lagging out of games I could get 'service'

steam of itself can't stop piracy.....but it makes a damn compelling argument for going legit.

steam brings so much ease and convenience to the guy who takes the moral high road.

convenience that was previously only afforded to the pirate.

As crixx and others could testify, if you want to man up and do the right thing, say buy an original call of duty 4. You'd be SOL finding it in a store to buy on the island. If by some miracle you did find it in stock, you'd pay an exorbitant price. Alternatively, you'd have to order it online and wait a week or two plus get charged shipping and duty for your fastness.

Steam evaporates all of that stress and gives you bargain bin prices on the best games. Not to mention an integrated online community to sweat with and seamless automatic updates.

While pirates still have the arduos task of keeping up on hacks, no cd cracks and work arounds to keep their games running. As well as setting up VPNs like Hamachi and others to play online with friends. All the while dodging viruses, spyware and other malicious code often found lurking in the morally void cespit of p2p networks and torrents. fact; that little russian kid who cracked Gears of War isn't your friend. lol

I'm not happy Blizzard has to take such extreme measures to avoid piracy of starcraft 2 but better that than to see their sales dwindle and the company close up shop under tough economic times!

Good points noob, the auto patching feature in itself is very good, i love d fact that i can launch DOW2 and i know its up-to-date anytime i do.

But blizzard removed lan for more than just piracy, they are touting there battlenet2 system, and profile tracking, and all the works, they want to keep the expereinced controlled, their idea is, anybody playing starcraft 2, weather it be Single Player, or MP, shud use battlenet2.

But blizzard removed lan and dont give a flyin frag about it because.

Its blizzard, lolol, they can remove lan if they want, and there game will still be sold out.
They can delay SC2 how much dey want, at release, d game is stil going to be flying off store shelves.
Its bold of them, but after what the orignal starcraft has done. At least they can back up their boldness.

It sucks for fans, but in d end, weather starcraft has lan, or dont have lan, weather it releasing 09, or 2010.
At release, when ppl start freaking it. nobody wud care about the rest. lol.

think about this matthew, they've always had battlenet.

I'm certain, in Trinidad that the vast majority of starcraft players haven't even experienced the original battlenet.

We'd have a sweat, with 40 odd players running the game and only one or two would have ever used blizzard's awesome online matchmaking system.

Fast forward 10 years and Blizzard is looking to make the reverse equation true. By removing lan, they're ensuring that the vast majority of craft players will be on battlenet.

The defacto option. The pirate proof option.

Compelling online play has been one of the major caveats of piracy. It's perfectly timed because broadband killed the lan party star. WoW has already proven that PC gamers are online in sufficient numbers for this to be a feasible strategy.

Let the game stealers fight up with hamachi, hacks and cracks while the majority of gamers enjoy all the benefits of a silky smooth online matchmaking system with persistent stats and global community.

Let's not forget, more money in the game developers pocket to ensure we get a starcraft 3 in another 10 years, lol

No argument from me.

my $$ put aside already.
