Lost Planet PC Demo ????

Ok I'm surprised no one mentioned this...or did they.

Lost Planet PC demo available on 15 May

Filed under: PC, Microsoft Xbox 360, Action
Those eager to traipse through an unforgiving climate and annihilate despicable alien creatures without the aid of an Xbox 360 won't have to wait much longer. A PC demo of Capcom's Lost Planet is set to materialize online next week, May 15th, and finally give those DirectX 10 cards something to do. Indeed, they'll be expected to utilize "the advanced features of Shader model 4.0" in order to render those frigid landscapes and enormous plot holes.

Older hardware isn't quite given the cold shoulder, however, as Lost Planet also supports Windows XP and DirectX 9. If monsters and mechs do it for you, find it on store shelves this June, priced at a totally last-gen $39.95.

I saw both DX9 and DX10 versions on torrent approx. 350MB.. too lazy to look to download though :P

happy hunting.

Downloaded the DX9 version and played it.  Let me warn everybody ONE TIME, especially 8800 series video-card users:
this game WILL NOT RUN PROPERLY unless you get the Forceware 160.03 drivers from guru3d.com.

Once you have that, the game just shines.  At 1360 x 760 it actually looks BETTER than the Xbox 360 version (yes I have it, so I can actually compare the two).
The game defaults to 4x AA and 16x AF, so unless you have a GTX/XTX whatever in your system, you might want to dial it down a bit.  I ran it quite comfortably
with 4x AA and 8x AF.  Also, the 'High' shadow setting is akin to the 'Soft Shadows' setting in F.E.A.R.  This setting is absolute TORTURE for video-cards, and in this
game, should only be used on SLI/Crossfire.

All in all, a very faithful port.  If you have a corded (USB) Xbox 360 controller, it will work just fine for this game.  The menu actually
has 'A-button' for select and 'B-button' for back, so go figure.
I suppose all the Xbox references will be programmed out of the final version.

Look some screenies iymc:

The last three screens are from the demo's built-in performance test, so you can run your system through its paces and check your average frame rate.
This test gives a fair example of what performance to expect when actually playing the game.

Damn.  In-game snow never looked so GOOD.

demo ran great but it really does need those new drivers, something always popping up telling me 'this setting is incompatible' or something and i hope they really do take out those A+B buttons for the 360 controller

I'll DL it in a bit, but I must say that this is one of those points where a console shines.. you realize the specs you need to run it on a PC.. and its usually a GG moment... As for looking better than a 360, all I have to say is, if after a whole year almost 2 of being out and the better hardware available on a PC... IF IT DID NOT look better THAT would be a problem. However I do not own this game on the 360 and prolly won't so PC here I come..  I guess 8800GTS will hadda be in meh upgrade path also.. or perhaps R670...

arc giwwe some DX 10 screens nah boy :) i got the demo las night and it plays fine with all settings high and highest res. i also had to get the 160.02 drivers from guru3d. cant wait for the game to come out, looks interesting....

yo arc how u get that resolution?? i tryin to find one that comfortable for my monitor but since its a widescreen i not sure which are the widescreen resolutions. i only familiar with the native res of my monitor.

EDIT: ok, so i checked the widescreen gaming forum and i realised that the game failed to run at my monitor's native resolution. *sigh*

Dont worry, I had that problem as well.  My LCD's native resolution is 1440 x 900, but most games don't have that res in their options, so if there is not an ini file that I can find to edit, then I have to choose the next best res, which in most cases is 1360 x 760 (or 1360 x 768).
In this case, there was a 1360 x 760 option, so I was forced to use that.

I'm sure the final game will have some way to use a custom resolution, so doh study it.

Cant seem to get it to work long enough to play through a level. It always sticks at some point and the audio loops and I have to Alt-Ctrl-Del to exit.

UPDATE: Followed Arcman's advice and used the beta drivers. Worked!!

Yes, unfortunately the demo has a bug, in that it wont play past 1 or 2 mins without that 160.02/03 Nvidia driver.
I dont know if ATI cards are having this problem.  The game freezes with a nasty audio loop.  If you can
Alt + Tab fast enough when it does, you can simply end the task.  If not, it freezes the whole PC and a reboot is necessary.

I was CUSSIN, because I thought it was just me, but thank god for the almighty internet/google, and guru3D of course.

my current system cannot run max settings using DX10. on top of that you need to download external DX10 files to run the game. Its in the comments ppl put up on Gamespot.com
Looks nice though. but they need to fix some issues with compatibility, either that or you gonna need a bitching system to run it. And that is 1280 x 1024 :P

played it myself... did 30-40 frames with lots of dips for no apparent reason. It looks like it needs optimization , graphics are good but there isn't much going on screen for it to lag .  It is just freshly ported from the 360 , the interface will tell you to hit 'B' on your controller when the button is 'E' on the keyboard .
Don't like it much myself if i wanted to play a console guy i'd buy a console .
