SCI FI channel unveils 'Ani-Monday'
« on: May 08, 2007, 02:11:44 PM »
Taken from http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=2&id=41415

Quote
SCI FI Channel announced "Ani-Monday," a new weekly programming block featuring anime, Mondays from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. ET/PT, starting June 11. Ani-Monday will feature a collection of movies, series and shorts from Starz Media's anime distribution arm, Manga, and marks SCI FI's first foray into original late-night programming, the channel said.

SCI FI's Ani-Monday will feature the exclusive premiere of Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society. Other titles on the horizon include the feature films Ninja Scroll, Blood: The Last Vampire, Read or Die and Blackjack. The anime block will also be home to premiers of new genre series such as Tokko, Noein and classic series such as Street Fighter II V.

Sounds like they're gonna try a TechTV Anime Unleashed

I put in links to the relvant anime series/movies on AnimeDB.net

I remember back in the day when SciFi Channel was the ONLY place you could get anime. SciFi actually started it (as far as I know) in the 80's and TechTv just took it to a new level. Anyway, it will be cool to see how they choose their content because Lord knows I can't stand the Cartoon Network adaptations.

All I remember is that I was still in primary school so it had to be the 80's. I didn't watch much TV in secondary school.

Well maybe it was sometime around then cause I went into form 1 around that time. Either way I know back in the day I used to watch SciFi and USA up all night with Rhonda. Those were the days.

Actually its 'Casshan' not 'keshan' (just in case someone wants to Google it).

I've been hoping and praying that 'Lensman' makes it to DVD, but alas, no one has heard my prayers.
That movie was one of the best, and most original anime I have seen since Sci-Fi started showing em.

Hats off to Sci-Fi.  Again.

Err... Lensman original??? LMAO *W1nTry falls down laughing* I doh mean to upset ur idea but... Lensman has alot in common with movies like Star Wars... think about it a while and let it sink in you'll realize what I talking about. Even so I did enjoy that movie thoroughly... its was a boss piece of work.

You SURE about this crixx? as I recall.. back in the days of AVM channel 4 which used to sign off to Sci-fi... the first time they showed anime it was Vampire Hunter D, Lensman and Robot Carnival... Tank police and the others came after that... I thinking more 94/95

I pretty sure the 3 I named were shown prior to the others. At the time of airing there was no 'anime-festival/week/japanaMAY/etc' it was just airing on Sci-Fi at like 11pm-3am... in subsequent years I saw the explosion of anime week on Sci-Fi with all the others you mentioned... too bad I can't find any hard dates on the net yet... ah well I guess its too long ago for me to remember now... I suppose you're right.... but i've been watching 'anime' if you could call it that back then, from before that.... think 80s...

See I know I was still in primary school when I started watching anime on scifi. It wasn't a regular schedule or anything but I distinctly remember Vampire Hunter D from the late 80's. I used to go to school and talk with my friends about it and we used to pretend we were anime characters.

On a side note, Diedara (if that is how you spell it) from Naruto real copy that mouth-in-hand thing from the Vampire hunter.

I don't know what's so funny about that.  The original author/creator of the Lensman mythos, E. E. Smith (on which the Lensman anime is based)
introduced a style of sci-fi writing which would eventually be known as 'space opera'.  His original Lensman stories were written during the 1930s and 40s.

So in a way, Star Wars (which is also defined as space opera) exists BECAUSE of Lensman.  Never mind the fact that the anime itself was made in 1984.

Dont take MY word for it.  All the relevant info is here.

Still laughing?

Pick yourself up off the floor now and READ, smart-a$$!!!

steups.....
