From time to time, forum members will make references to products/parts from different online mercahnts.

My question is: with all the credit-cards issued by banks locally, what is your experience with the different
merchants with your credit-cards?

I would like to know what cards issued by which bank are best for purchasing stuff online.

Reason being: I have a TSTT/RBL Visacard from Republic Bank which works quite well on Amazon,
but not on Newegg, Buy.com, Best Buy, Circuit City, Tigerdirect, Zipzoomfly and the like.

Newegg has the best prices (usually), but I cant buy nothing dammit.

I've used Amazon and Tiger Direct with my RBTT FF MC

Haven't tried Newegg or any of the others you mentioned there.

I've found that if I put my Skybox as an alternate address (shipping address) on the card's account details via the banking institution, I don't get as much trouble.

One site I had real trouble with was them Gil for money sites. Remember that time boy Crixx?

Does anyone use Paypal?

If so, how does it work, and can we (TnT) use it?
I see that Newegg accepts Paypal payments.

I use Paypal, for Ebay stuff, basically when you set up your Paypal a/c, and it's time to pay at the site, just select paypal as the payment type, it'll prompt you to log in to ur Paypal account then, and from there it will issue you your final payment to be made.

So far, I haven't gotten any real majour issues with it, so if Newegg accepts it, go for it

so now trini's can just log on to PayPal and create an account? Top it up with any T&T credit card?

I tried a small purchase using PayPal on Newegg, and it WORKED.
So I guess Newegg has a new customer.

Nah, not silly at all. How would you know if you don't ask?

They don't. You must have an account with a local shipper/importer.
The shipper would usually have an address in Miami that you would instruct the sites
to ship to.

well you have any local shipper or importer you would recomend? I only know of one ttdirectbuy, but they kinda pricey, and they buy the stuff for you

I think Ezone/PO Box Int'l offers something similar.....

But I agree this is a VERY important thread... for those of us who engage in importing computer parts regularly.

Yep, they do now. I created an account and was actually able to successfully purchase stuff from Newegg,
using my Republic Bank Visa I might add.

Amazon is a safe bet for local credit cards. Anything else, you may have issues with. If anyone knows of a locally issued credit card that can be used as a US credit card, that would be some useful info. I had a Visa card from Intercommercial Bank and that was only accepted regularly by Amazon. Until I read in this thread about Paypal accepting local cards, I was under the impression that they would not accept local cards either. I guess things changed with them. I would hesitate to recommend using Paypal because of some of the negative publicity regarding them. Check out these sites for more info:

As for skyboxes, I have been using E-Zone for a couple years now and have not had a problem with their service. Keep in mind that you pay a minimum of $60 flat per package for shipping. Then, customs is calculated and added and finally, VAT is added if applicable. It explains a lot of the high prices you will see locally for electronics.

From what I remember, you pay 30% customs on stuff like games and DVD's. So you add the price of the item, shipping to your skybox and shipping to Trinidad. Then, you check 30% of that total for customs. So, the difference between a DVD and a box set will depend on the price of the items and also the amount you pay in shipping.
