Primary schools Technology project.
« on: March 02, 2007, 09:10:54 AM »
Well, i've recently left my job @ BG to assist the Ministry of Education in its project to bring computer technology to the students of Trinidad and Tobago.

There are 342 primary schools in TnT and the aim of this project is to setup networks and provide computers for the students and teachers of our schools. The schools will be linked to the education backbone and will provide content to all of the nation's primary schools.

The technicians are also responsible for assisting secondary schools on their purchase of new systems for their labs and are to assist in the work needed.

Just wanted to let you guys know about this monumental effort being undertaken for the next three years.

On a side note :) i get to choose the hardware specs being chosen for the secondary schools ^_^

yah, unfortunately the primary schools already specced.

i havent even seen the desktops but ive gotten a look at the server specs
standard garbage but ehh, not my money.

Whats gonna be my cup of tea is getting to advise on the implentation of the firewalls and maybe even vpn.

All connected via tstt no less, pfft, and if we can make a good enuff case to show the government that tstt is to much garbage to provide enuff reliable bw for this project, then we get to use flow, yay.

Oh and iam working hard to get on the standards board for secondary schools. right now i can just tell them that the machines they tendering out for are garbage and advise the dealers of what we want instead, so in other words

Ahhhhahahaahahahhaahahaahahahhaahhaahahahaahah x1000000

That said...Do you REALLY believe that you can convince government to go to any company other than TSTT for their communications solutions? Like you forgetting who owns a REALLLy large portion of TSTT

Good luck on convincing the gov't not to use TSTT. I'm pretty sure that those folks at TSTT will make it a point to prevent any other ISP for servicing Government projects, the best you may get is using another ISP as a failover link. In that case, only if TSTT screws up enough(Which from what I've heard somehow doesn't happen to "big" accounts) then you may get a nice window to push through Flow.

This would be a great opportunity to promote Linux and OpenSource, get more money towards hardware...

Recently I understand that Crixx and W1nTry finally met.

Y'all discussed anything related to the project? Any updates on this project at this time?

IF yuh read the thread where that info was made public, you'd have seen I mentioned crixx didn't say much of anything. Heck didn't even motion to the effect that he recognised who I was. I had to ask, at which point he said yeah, i'm crixx... man real anti-social O_o. But as I also mentioned in said WDMC thread.. prolly the AND Intel bad blood LMAO!!!
