Neverwinter nights 2 help (anyone familiar with d&d type gaming)
« on: February 24, 2007, 05:10:24 AM »
OK i just got neverwinter nights 2 running nice love story but still dont understand how things work (although im owning :) ) heres where my problem starts.

in atk on weapons and such instead of having a flat # like 16 it wil have 1d6 i figuered that ment 16 until i got an item that said 1d12 i was like wtf?

then to top it off some of the explain some crap about dice rolling and turns and shit, being that this is a real time rpg turns make no sense to me and i have yet to see a roll

then critical hits are usually like 19-20x2 only god knows what that means

Anywho can someone help me out this is my first D&D type game.

Neverwinter Nights 2 Game Guide by GameSpot.com

however, for a simple answer to your dice roll dilemma; D&D type games have most of their mechanics based on dice rolls. No, you won't see any dice rolling around a craps table, instead it's taken into account when computing stuff like stats, armor bonuses, crit. attacks etc.

first number is the number of die
second number is the number of sides (numbered from 1)

so your first item had 1 die with 6 sides, giving you a range or 1-6 to calculate damage done.

the second one was a little better in that it had a higher number of sides. 12. therefor you could roll anywhere from 1 - 12.

here's a nice explanation on another site

I agree... I just love RPG's... got hooked after playing FF6 on SNES (was FF3 then)
ever since is rpg after rpg... sad thing nowadays is the required specs for the PC breed of rpg

eg.

NWN2

System: 3.0 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
RAM: 1024 MB
Hard Drive Space: 6500 MB
Other: ATI Radeon X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series or higher video card

Right now I'm in the process of acquiring 2GB of RAM just to start... then it'll be decision time for the GPU. I almost miss the console days when I consider where games have gotten to with respect to specs and power...

if you like the neverwiner style check out Titan Quest
When i beat neverwinter :D

btw i still dont understand crits is it a 20 sided die to determine crit hits ? eg. Critical 19-20x2

and +1s in many games i see +1s add stats but a +1 in NWN2 looks the same cept for the +1 written what does it do?

Anyway if your pc can run this game its a MUST HAVE Great storyline ( so far but i never played NWN1 so i dont know the past but who cares ) nice gameplay (after you understand it ) Lots of ways to upgrade your character and unlike neverwinter nights 1 in this one u can control each party member individually instead of just ordering them. i give a 8.5/10 due to horrible camera angles and horrible running mechanics :D ( i still cant run properly lmao )

your to hit roll is used to see if you crit.

look for weapons that are keen, weapon skills etc, all increase you chance to crit, dramatically raising your damage.

highest damage weapon = monk fist at level 20 ;) d 20 damage!

I really don't like nwn2 as much as I expected. heavy on graphics, but not effective use of effects. nwn1 is a much better way to get into it. diamond - which is nwn1 and both packs, sells cheap enough. and while it's not heavy on graphics, it looks quite well detailed, crisp, and is practically bug free.
:P random text doesn't go out of date does it?
