DAMN good too , the bottom end card will be able to match a 6600gt ! Gonna wait till the next refresh though, my x1800xt will be just a little slower than the 8600 anyway , i'll wait for a less power hungry 8900 or so rhits around 250 USD... or whatever ATI has .

Hmmm nice find. I must agree that the 8600 Ultra looking like the ultimate sweet spot, and that price looking sexy too, just about the same amount i paid for my 6800 a year and a half ago. Sweet.

oh boy.. as though it ent have enough cards to choose from.... but pricewise it still a lot better than the US$450 i was gonna save for the 8800. Like Unknown says, it's a sweet spot

According to the article, we looking at a mid-March release date. Between that and the new C2D 4300, we'll save tonnes on our car insurance new system builds.

overclocking programs are going to get much more complex.

There's going to be ROP (raster operator) and SP (stream processor overclocking). If they're tied together, there's going to also be bios flashing to control whatever multiplier is used to control em. The 8600gt, and 8300gt are going to be awful close in fillrate - so prices will adjust with performance after they're introduced. Especially since the 8800gts is down to $365 (rebates). Would be cool if unlocking comes back in this generation

All I have t o Decide on 8600 for price vs 8800 for performance (sounds like the AM2 vs Core 2 Duo battle in my head form last year)

these new cards comin out for war boy!! i waitin to see what ATi comin out with, then i'll make my decision on what to buy. im no fanboy, i just buy what is performing excellent for the price at the time. what's funny tho, is the fact that we havent seen any proper specs/pics or ATi's R600 and it's spose to be released soon.......ent?

Nvidia's GeForce 8800-series graphics cards have generously wide memory buses, but their upcoming mainstream siblings may end up being a little more bandwidth-constrained. According to a report by VR-Zone, GeForce 8600 cards will have 128-bit-wide memory buses, just like their GeForce 7600- and GeForce 6600-series predecessors.

The site says Nvidia will introduce two GeForce 8600 models: a GeForce 8600 GT with a 650MHz core clock and 900MHz memory and a GeForce 8600 GS with 550MHz core and 700MHz memory clocks. Both models will have 64 stream processors, a 128-bit memory bus, and 256MB of GDDR3 RAM. Those specs contradict previous rumors, and they suggest the two cards will only have 28.8GB/s and 22.4GB/s of memory bandwidth—pretty low considering the GeForce 7900 GS has 42.2GB/s.

    Not as as we'd like it  , probably only twice as fast as the 7600gt and just matching the 7900gt /x1900gt , but with DX10 . Still very good value for money , but 8800 will be twice as fast, and may be better bang for buck if you can get a lower end model for like 250 and unlock pipelines .

given that the 8800gts is currently available for $365 (newegg), and the 8800gts 320MB was suppossed to start at $300, i'd expect that card to hit your $250 budget.
