Nvidia Geforce 7300 problem....
« on: December 24, 2006, 08:19:37 PM »
Heres the thing...every time i try to run some 3D game like FEAR or war3, the game loads normally but it reaches the main screen, runs good for a while, the pointer freezes up,along with the game and then the machine reboots itself. i dont want to fully believe its the card cuz i can do everything else except play any 3D games or watch vids that require codecs, its a brand new card and its a PCI express one at that, it could be a software problem, im not too sure. any help would be appreciated.....heres a read out from my DxDiag...

1) Check for card overheating
2) What kind of power supply are you running (detailed specs or at least model)
3) Try uninstalling and reinstalling another grpahic card driver.
4) Could possibly be a problem with either the ram board or the video card itself (run memtest on the memory for an extended period of time (a few hours) to see what's what, also Prime95 to check for general system instability which may be caused by some defective or inadequate component (read power supply)
5) Last resort, do a fresh reinstallation of OS an see if problem perisits.

i have the latest drivers(93.71) and the latest directx but im beginning to think that it might be the power supply. although its a 500w PS, it only has 20 pin while the new board itself has 24 pins,(it works fine tho) but im not too sure, any thoughts on this?

The 20 pin ps on 24 pin board should not be a problem in and of itself, however, try putting the system under a stress test. Google prime95, installand torture test to see what happens, also afterwards if the machine does not reboot on its own, try running memtest.

If the board is 24-pin, get a 24-pin power-supply.  Using a 20-pin introduces too many
variables when you are having problems, ESPECIALLY when dealing with PCI-e.
The PCI-e bus itself requires substantially more power than AGP, so save yourself
some more hassle down the road.

I learnt this the hard way.

fo real boy? what happened? i runnin a 20-pin on my 24-pin right now without problems.......but i know is better to be safe than sorry. so i have a psu on the way, should be here in jan. i know for a fact that the extra 4 pins are spose to be dedicated to the pci-e slot on the board, to give it an extra boost nah. i read that if u have a good 20-pin and the card connects directly to it (pci-e connector) u should be fairly well off. but dont chance it.....
