While the prospect of another Guitar Hero sequel seemed like a no-brainer for the Xbox 360 and PS2, the status of the franchise on next-gen systems like the PS3 and Wii seemed a likely, but still uncertain possibility. Yet, in a report last week, GamePro hinted towards a rumor stating that the next edition of Guitar Hero would be released for all three next-gen systems, in addition to the PS2.
Today, RedOctane co-founder and president Kai Huang validated the rumors, telling IGN that Guitar Hero III would be available for all systems mentioned above. However, in regards to the Wii version specifically, he confirmed to the site that a guitar peripheral will, in fact, be required.
"We are really excited about the Wii game because there are so many options for the Wii remote," Huang explained. "However, you will play the game with a guitar peripheral and it will be similar to a guitar you've seen in the past."
He also added that Guitar Hero III will utilize some of the same online functions as the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II, including online play and new downloadable tracks.
Similar to the information provided by last week's rumor, Guitar Hero III has a preliminary release date of Fall 2007.
