Price wars...
« on: June 16, 2006, 05:50:06 PM »
I was trying to find a post I JUST made about how the graphics wars are really working FOR us... but I couldn't, freezing in AC here and not thinking straight. So I went looking on newegg.com and found THIS and all I have to say is WOW.... a X1900XTX for $420USD after rebate.... DEAR GOD.... it's becoming EVER so increasingly difficult to NOT want to upgrade...

$375 for the normal xt. Nice to see prices falling when the next gen is still off a bit.

Unfortunately, for the average gamer or GL, those prices are still somewhat prohibitive.  Serious gamers and enthusiasts, of course, will have absolutely no problem shelling out that kinda cash.

I dunno, its probably just me, but I still find em kinda expensive.  I rather spend $250 US every 2 years, than spend $450 or $500 US every year on just video card alone.

yeah, I agree.

However, recently bumped up my limit to US$300.00 for a vid card (which I still think is plenty)

To put that in perspective, it isn't too bad given the amount of money some people spend on other passions and vices (cars, women, gambling)

As PC enthusiasts, we sometimes tend to be overly conservative and price conscious when compared to dealing with these other pursuits.

So I decided to loosen the reigns a little.

A good point imo...and das why I had dish out for the 7800GT when I purchased my machine last October...I made a conscious decision to splurge a bit on the gfx card. And I must say, I'm not regrettin it one bit...

for the casual/occasional gamer, tho..
what sort of budget would you recommend for them?

are the cards that dwell around $100 US suitable?

yeah, as mentioned here, you can get a 7600 GS for around US$$115.00

Great card for the money.

A lot of good gaming to be had even at that low price point. Perfect for the casual gamer.

cool, man thanks

yeh i saw the other  thread, but i was wondering if those cards were 'as good as yuh gonna get cuz yuh on AGP i.e. lousy' , or if they could handle their  own for an occasional strans with some settings off..

also, was wondering if the falling prices trend was tricklin down to middle / lower end cards as well
