In the wake of the Dell buy out of Alienware
« on: May 30, 2006, 08:42:09 AM »
If you were a frequent visitor to the alienware website before the buy out
you would have come to know that there WAS a product line that us plebs could have afforded, between 1100 to say 1500 us. Now, there isnt.

Prices have effectively increased.

Iam guessing that missing product line range, has been filled by dell xps machines lol. IN other words, instead of having dells xps's compete with the alienware in the same price range, they shift product ranges and made alienware a slightly higher price point.

sneaky

Makes sense, because that was the most dangerous product to Dell.

The high end Alienware machines are great show boats but the masses would never buy those. Only elitists and lotto winners. Not exactly Dell's market.

The low end range on the other hand......a slice of gaming heaven for the rest of us. RIP

Sneaky indeed.

Evil monopalistic mcs......  Intel is going to stop giving Dell and other OEM's bulk discounts  thanks to AMD's court rulings , so the processors will cost just as much as any in retail... One more reason not to buy a dell..

that should read...one more reason not to buy an Intel.

If they were using unfair business practices so much so that the court had to intervene.

But DAMN, those must have been some SERIOUS discounts for it to become a legal matter since many companies give bulk discounts all the time with no probs.

it only become an issue when baby amd started to whine .
sigh
i real not in the mood for that arguament again

BUT ONCE AGAIN
HOW IS IT UNFAIR TO OFFER SAVINGS TO THE CONSUMER!!!
AMD ARE SUCH BASTARDS!! INTEL IS BEING GOOD TO THE PEOPLE AND OFFERING DISCOUNTS
but amd decide that they cah match price an make a profit
so the well meaning intel offers have to go away and consumers are the ones that suffer

I suppose if they gave those discounts to the consumers instead of the big Industry bullies like DELL, the court would not have a problem.

but that is the point

the companies like dell get the discounts
and they pass them on by having these crazy deals and discounts that dell pulls off
so the savings are passed down

it was more than succesfull in japan
and dell knows how to sell so they would adopt similiar methods
but AMD DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE CONSUMERS
so they whine and say that is "unfair" business practices just cause they cant give customers the same savings and make a profit
yu know what THAT is called??

THAT RIGHT THERE
IS CALLED

Ah tell alyuh this is the end of Alienware as we know it... Dell's not gonna make their main competitor join them and still cah sell at least one mc XPS machine.... yuh mad...

Mikey done learn from Billy..,  that once you acquire a competitor you sic  your financial manager in dey ass... the rest will take care of itself...

Now all Dell has to worry about is Falcon Northwest... Really unfortunate for Alienware poor bastards

But Crixx most of those Dell components are substandard and most time not even upgradeable (conventionally)  hence the reason they sell their machines so inexpensively...

Some major companies have had their claims of "top line components" revoked (e.g. Creative Labs and Samsung) all for the sake of "passing the savings to consumers". AMD on the other hand has always been the "choice" of gamers (the small man) and this is where they (AMD) built their reputation cuz you know gamers not easy to please...

Iam a gamer, and my choice has and ALWAYS will be intel.
Notice i said my CHOICE!!!! cause that is exactly what it is.

Not forced upon me, like amd is doing by making the courts force intel to play amds games.
Its so stupid its like a glaringly slap in the face to the business process.

People say they support the amd cause the underdog
but what happens when amd continues to get the courts to force intel to play their game and all of a sudden, amd is now the big dog... what then?

lol

check the market figures. AMD is hardly the big dog.

They are only dominate the enthusiast market (gamers like you and me)

The corporate and casual buyer have more intel in their machines than anything else.

Till that equation is different, AMD will be the underdog.

btw, I am not happy with their pricing in recent times. Equalling and surpassing Intel in some cases. Not a good thing.

Yeah boy Baego...., those prices sneak up on us when we wasn't looking and give us a sound beating jed... AMD HAS to do something about those prices if they want to keep me as a customer

Actually, without knowing the inner workings of the Dell, HP, Lenova, etc financial structure and how they obtain they materials saying that they pass along the discounts to the customer is a moot point and a assumption (read mother of all FCuk ups). Fact is, if Dell was the ONLY company selling PCs (no HP etc) and AMD wasn't pressuring intel over the past 4 years with the AMD64 architecture intel would not HAVE to offer ANY rebates on CPUs and Dell would not HAVE to have such low cost systems. The thing with men like crixx is they only see on 1 side of the fence. Hell if Steve Jobs hadn't closed the apple box SO tighly in its infancy we'd all be using POWER PC CPUs right now NOT Intel inside or AMD64.

Alot of the BIG players in tech deserve their due and Intel has been a fundamental driving force with much kudos to them. IBM is also a huge player and more recent AMD has been a significant driving force in the CPU arena. Face it, if AMD wasn't KICKING intel @$$ left front and center, we'd all be stuck with Netburst for as LONG as intel could force it upon us. AMD will HAVE to do something about pricing because they would no longer have the price/performance point they once did, but hey it's a simple evolution of tech, just as AMD64 was a leap above the P4 marchitecture, hopefully Conroe will be the next jump. Competition has led us to enjoy the price wars and we should be all greatful in 1 way or another to all the players. BTW crixx the only demon is MS and we ALL know that. Billy is the the head honcho, but even so, the man is also the single largest donator in the WORLD (i'm sure it helps he has the cash in the first place) but the point is, everyone gives.
