far less for SATA.

The drives are still too slow to worry about bus speed improvements.

That is precisely why SCSI never became mainstream in the first place.

A superior technology that just didn't deliver the goods for the average schmoe.

It only excels under server conditions and only then, with raid in place.

The HD manufacturers should double hard drive speeds and then talk to us about SATA / SAS

At least SATA is cheap enough to be a "no brainer" replacement for ATA because it costs no more and in some cases, it even costs less.

You forgot to mention the high RPM's inherent in the SCSI drives. SCSI never became mainstream because it was/is too expensive and requied(s) higher than average tech know how to set up the raid configs etc, not because the drives were too slow. SCSI was never even intended for the ordinary person anyay. I think they should be focusing on increasing the data rates that the drives can actually crank out but with the current tech there are some problems such as excessive heat and short lifespan. Perhaps the best route is to direct attention away from heads & platters and focus on development of a different hdd tech altogether. I think it has already begun.

Yeah its called solid state hard drices. Ram drives, Flash drives... and well there is also vertical hard drives... ram drives would be great but are too expensive and small, flash drives are coming but they aren't high enough performers yet, I think they're up to 5400RPM ATA drive specs by now but there is some new memory tech coming so that should improve soon and then there are vertical platter HDs which I can't rem too much about right now.

Won't it b nice when the solid state tech comes into fruition as a replacement for our current hdd's? Think of it....less heat, power consumption and wayyy longer life span.
