NEED SOME HELP

Hey fellas I got an old p3 that has a dvd rom drive and a 16 x cd burner.
I had roxio easy cd creator installed on it and When I decided to uninstall the roxio the dvd rom and cd burner stop responding.
I triesd uninstalling the dvd/cd  drivers and let windows automatically install them again but an error occurs.
The windows is recognizing the hardware but it says that a problem has occur while insatlling the hardware and it may not work properly. I cant even install back the roxio.

Also for some reason the virtual memory is always running low when ever I open a page i.e for example to go to my documents,etc. However when I run a program/game straight from the shortcut from the desktop nothing gos wrong with the virtual memory....it only has 128 ram

1) What version Windoze you using there?
2) Are you running any Anti-Virus applications?
3) Can you open a document from within the application? Eg, in Word, go to File -> Open -> etc...

I am running windows xp
I was running panda anti virus but I deleted it because It was slowing down the pc
Yes When i open a document from with an application the virtual memory doesn't run low

Did you delete Panda anti virus or Uninstall the Antivirus?, there is a difference and just deleting it could cause problems especially with an Antivirus an Xp.
By the way what is the size of your harddrive?

I have a few moer questions for you:
1. WHY ON GOD's Grey (of late) earth are u using Roxio? That program sucks
2. Panda antivirus? never heard of it, have u tried, avg, norton, mcafee?
3. What about a firewall, do u have a firewall?
4. What service pack are u on 1, 2? none?

I uninstalled panda
A 40 gig hard drive
I have a fire wall
And I have no SP available.

I tried uninstalling the dvd/cd drive and reinstall it using the Add new hardware wizard and this message appears
"A problem occured while installing your new hardware so it may not function properly".

HHmmmmm......I dont think nothing is physically wrong with the drive as such since it is recognised by the system so we could rule that one out.
I think it has to do with the drivers which proberbly is corrupted and is in need of an update ,or there could be conflict with other devices.
What is the make and model of the DVD/cd drive?,so we could source the drivers for you.

With respects to Virtul memeory problem, your system does have enough Physical memory or Ram, what happens is that Xp/CPU is using your harddrive to process data instead of your already over burden 128 Ram, which could be 100% more effective when sufficient. Although you may have 40gigs your P3 is trashin it out and losing because the harddrive I/O bandwidth is very poor,we are talkin bout thousands of a second to billons of a second hardrive and RAM respectively , so when trying to use IExplorer and Messenger and word could eventually bring your computer to its knees.....:-(

Ok the dvd drive is a NEC DV-5700A
And the cd burner is a LG   HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B

Found some sites with the driver/firmware that could help.
You wou have to download and install them AT YOUR OWN RISK because I cannot test them myself.
Get some more info and opinions before you do anything though.

Ok buddy here de flick first thing from my past experiences wit dvd cd rom burner proplems. the best advice i could give u is to get windows xp service pack 2. disable all anti- viruses(firewalls should not be a problem) and for gods sake get nero. roxio spoiled 2 of my burners at in th day. it sucks 100% . its a good cd ripper but still it sucks Get Nero the lastest version if u cant get nero i could email it to you using yahoo.

If your using xp you SHOULD have the latest updates for it @ Least till sp2.
Have you tried a system restore? if you didn't give it a try.
If you read the above post it also included a firmware update, try the drivers first it should do the trick,try not to update firmware unless it nessasary.
Here is some software that you should consider.

NEVER use nortons,other wise the only way to remove it completely is to re-install win, nortons screws up the system. Mcafee is the best commercial antivirus though. If you into paying.
And you should consider migrating to Windows 2000 if you staying with your current system.Windows XP too demanding on the resources (recommended system RAM is 256), OR turn off non-escential stuff in windows XP(like the pretty-ness of the GUI) and stuff that runs on start up that you don't use.

if you live in the central are i could easily get the SPs to you, or a slipstramed disc with sp2 that you can use to do a fresh install with/upgrade.
