I have been noticing in the past few months that my download speed has been increasing on dailup.

I used to get around 3kb/s even with my ddl accelerators.

Now I get somewhere between 5 - 7 kb/s without accelerators and sometimes as high as 10 - 12 kb/s with accelerators although it isn't usually stable at the upper limits.

Most of my friends still get 3kb/s and on occasion get 6kb/s max. Does anybody have any idea what is going on?

Did TSTT increase the speed/bandwith for it's dailup customers or is it possibly a configuration setting that has allowed me the speed increase.

I haven't done anything special to my machine that I can think of and I am only running SP1 although I have had the speed boost since before the SP1 upgrade.

If anyone can shed some light on this it would be nice to know what caused it and if it can be boosted any further.

I have included some random screen shots to show my ddl speed with Azureus but I get the same speeds with all apps (even the firefox browser itself).

 tstt supposedly added some compression to  dial up , so on certain downloads it will be slightly faster .

Ok cool, but what you mean by "certain downloads" ?

Is there anyplace I can get more info on what they are doing with the net?

is not any special compression, is that most people going over to dsl now, so the dialup system not flooded. yuh getting more bandwidth in theory

Well what I want to know is why my friends getting the normal 3 - 6 kb/s.

Shouldn't we all be getting the same speed?

We all located around the same area. I am in Laventille and one of my friends in the heart of P.O.S.
He never dream to see anything over 6 kb/s.

well when you dialup, you get connected to a tstt server , so the speed will depend on what server you get connected to

also ah warning there might be fast servers BUT there is a slow one that is very popular that you can get connected to .. i dont know the name or any technical information but its popular ppl complain about it alot.
and yea i get some insane speeds on 56 k as well got alot of stuff in a day dont know how much of the cd it filled up but it was pretty much alOOOT

When I connect my speed reads 50.6 kbs.

It reads the same on my friends computer in town but he doesn't get the same download speeds I get.

No it isn't porn but all the same I rather not broadcast what I am downloading. Let's just say i am the goto man when you want hard to aquire hard to get or very expensive software.

I added another scrren shot from a recent download. Both downloads were going at the same time and was stable enough that it stayed at the levels shown in the pic. Also this is with another program (a download accelerator) but the speeds I get are way above anything my friends get with the same appz.
