my geforce 6800gt problem

yea fellas, i have an evga geforce 6800gt 3400+ 64 amd 1 gb ram sound card 400W psu. and after a couple mins sometimes in farcry the screen goes blank and the sound stutters. if i restart the screen windows boots up with a type of checkered screen. i checked evga's site and i read abt some guy who had a similar problem. evga suggested switching the sound card to a different pci port. i haven't tried it yet.

do u think that'll fix the problem

 sounds like overheating.. or a driver conflict, try giving extra cooling to your graphics card and  uninstalling the sound card  and see if it helps .

I agree with the removal of sound card problem, I doubt its an overheating problem but it MIGHT be... so don't rule it out, you could probably look for the most updated farcry patch (it could be a video driver - game) issue or check nvidia or evga website for known compatibility issues.

all patches and drivers are up to date. i'll try the moving of the sound card when i go home later. hopefully that solves the problem.
hope it has nothing to do with power consumption

With a card like that you should have more than a 400W PSU, just to be safe... but moresover its the actual ampage that can be supplied on the +5V and 12V rails. You should have a PSU that pushes no less than about 20A on the 5 (at least I think thats what it is from memory). above 25A on the 5V is recommended.

yeah, the amps on the 12v rail is very important.

It is also the hallmark of a good psu, more so than the "wattage"

a 400 - 450 Watt powersupply with 18a or greater on the 12V rail is recommended.

We are using such on a rig with 6600GT, Athlon 64 3000+ and 1gb RAM.

No issues.

Anything less and you could be in trouble.

Symptoms will range from random lockups to the screen blacking out.
