Just took a taste of the demo , it blowed me a way , graphically and the atmosphere it generates . Its a cross between Doom III and half life 2 graphically , doom III level shadows and lighting , half life 2 level textures ,models , shader effects etc. . Nothing short of amazing ,
the gameplay also is very enjoyable , gives a tactical feel and fun FPS gameplay at the same time... you can't run in and shoot everything , you must advance , retreat, take cover etc. A full slew of combat moves from a rifle but to the head, to jump kicks make it even more enjoyable , combined with a 'slo mo' mode that makes it possible to dodge bullets and execute melee moves on your enemies you'll likely be playing the game over and over again .
The Atmosphere is doom 3 style tense and scary... but it does not focus on fright all the time , but the few moments that you are supposed to be frightened , you will be very scared , not just zombies popping out of nowhere, very suttle things like a shadow moving in the corner of your eye... a figure in the distance that appears the dissapears.... voices in the dark , such things leave you jumping at your own shadow literally in the game long after they are gone .
Very gory and not for kids , i think i saw some dismemberment when someone got hit by a grenade.... arm flying about , rag doll physics give the game a 'feel' that i'v never seen before... enemies are smart and hard to kill unless you pump them full of lead, or target critical areas eg. head , upper chest .
Haven't done a full scale analysis on how it runs on my hardware ,but i can tell you it will leave many of yesteryears high end rigs crying , my 6600gt that runs doom 3 @ 60fps with anti aliasing lags occasionally in FEAR at max settins , no aa , 1024x768 , but it scales nicely on lower end rigs with 9600 pros and the like .
here are some pics... will post more comments in a few hours .
