Best PDA/pocket PC ?
« on: March 01, 2005, 05:43:57 PM »
I realised that getting a cell phone with PDA features is wasteful  , i'll just keep my cheap GSM and get a nice pda........ i'm looking for one that has :

Wi-Fi ( hotspots in movie town, airport! )
fairly fast (enough to run emulators/compilors on)
a 32 bit OS that supports windows programs ( emulators!, compilors!)
price ( 200us or less)
life span ( replacable battery, long battery life ) .

I'v done a little searching ,  the palm Tungsten E looks good... but no wi-Fi/replacable battery and i'm not sure about the OS ......

I am a big PDA fan and have been fortunate enough to use quite a number of them.

As it stands, wifi is not practical on a PDA as yet. Main reason being batterly life. It totally and utterly kills the battery. I'm talking 4 hours or less.

That sucks.

Until their is a quantum leap in battery technology, a pda with wifi is simply there for gimmick purposes. 95% of the time you will have it off. Turn it on to make a quick "free" email or web search and then hurriedly turn it back off again.

The better option for connectivity as it stands right now, would be GPRS. At $100.00 a month, it is not the cheapest option but it won't wtfpwn your battery.

As far as convergence goes, the P910 has the best of both worlds.

Solid PDA functionality and solid phone features all with incredible battery life.

It ain't cheap. US$500 - 800

For all the features you requested, the HP (was compaq) Ipaq 5450 has it all and the kitchen sink. Again, US$500 - 800 and the battery won't go past 4 hours with all features on.

In the PDA market you won't get "cheap and feature rich" at the moment. Maybe in a years time.

i own a p900 and it is one of the best phone /pda devices that i hoped to own it is my personal sidekick i can send my email's i can chat on msn messenger( third party program www.agilemobile.com) i can search the internet make phone calls send text messages if tstt was better i could alson have sent multimedia messages but what can i say  but any way the p900 is a good choice and with the release of the p910a the price is slowly decreasing. (IF YOU WANT A GOOD CAMERA PHONE THE QUALITY IN THIS IS NOT VERY GOOD YOU GET GOOD QUALITY PICTURES WHEN THE LIGHTING IS PERFECT AND NO OTHER TIME DONT EVEN BOTHER TAKING A NIGHT PHOTO WITHOUT RAISING THE BRIGHTNESS TO 100%)

agreed.

I really have to get that internet service on my phone.

Are there any down sides to it? limited bandwidth? Or you can be on msn whole day, every day for the $100.00?

lol @ how do I put picture here.

check me on gattchat and I'll walk you through the process of setting up the sig.

Should probably do a "How To" and post it on the forum.

Any volunteers?
