@MD Dual cores
« on: March 03, 2005, 01:34:15 PM »
Well apparently @MD already has up and running dual core processors (yeah I know since last year) that are ready for the market. They are in production and its only a matter of time now before they are officially released. Now as with 1ntel parts one would think the dual core cpus will not run at speeds comparable to their current single core brothers... well thats not true. Consider the fastest @MD core is 2.6GHz and now consider that the Dual core cpus will be released at a whopping 2.4GHz... yup u heard right 2.4GHz. Below is a pic of an alienware case with one such dual core cpu. Note its NOT an alienware, just needed a really good case for the demo.
Here have a look see:

The prices of many chips will plummet  ,  Especially with intel  releasing 64 bit Celerons  AMD will probably drop the athlon64 3000 price alot .   Dual cores are great for servers , workstations etc. but worthless for gamers under windows .....
   I plan to upgrade to :
  Epox A64 939 board with AGP ,  1 GB dual channel GEIL RAM, Sound Blaster Audigy 2 OEM ,  Athlon 64 3000 ( overclocked to 4000 or higher )  .
  within 6 months , if windows 64 isn't horribly buggy etc.

what is the performance of the dual like compared to it's single core brethren?

Gaming performance? 3dmark? Hl2?

All that will be revealed in time, aka when we have the final release of win64 and games to run on it. So far I think the only games u can run is a pre-release of farcry and UT2004 on Linux64 I think.... The rest of apps will be ported later. However it will be important to note that certain apps may be optimized for 1ntel tech ie the way they implement things like SSE2/3 etc. So even those benches could prove useless. I had read a review of the 64 bit processors I will try to find it and link it back here. @MD real cut de arse of course. This was on Linux 64 and the latest release candidate of win64. will update soon.

I read an article this morning about the Turion, which is @MD's answer to the Pent1um M. Its a 754 Socket, operates at 25W and have SSE3 also. It was clocked at 1.6GHz @ ~1.35V but OCed up to 2GHz @ 1.05V :) they call it the Centr1no Killer!!!

 imagine getting that into a socket 754 board on a desktop ! and pumping 1.5 volts into it ,  i'm sure 3ghz on air will be a reality .
