how is this going to work ? let's say u fight an israeli team.. which
server do u choose ?
something in between.. say germany ? my pings to my old clanserver are
around 250ms
that makes ut/q3 games next to impossible to play. with american servers
it's a bit better - the best
I get is 90ms .. but I'd like to see an american team that is willing to
play on a jamaican server. :s
most likely they would insist on playing on the official ggl servers
with the ping advantage.

in addition to that, you have to deal with the extra lag from voip
soft.. like teamspeak,
which is absolutely required if you want to compete on a professional level.

rts might work pretty well though. dunno

this is what I got from the faq:*

A. Server Selection Guidelines*
The GGL provides official servers for our members to use for matches.

Please note that when a match is booked on a server, the server will
only be up for window of time (depending on game title) and you will be
unable to play the match before or after the scheduled time.

If you book a match on a GGL server, please show up on time and limit
any pre-match practice to a few minutes.

The following titles are supported:

- Unreal Tournament 2004
- Quake III: Arena
- Counter-Strike
- Call of Duty
- Wolfenstein Enemy Territory

If no servers are available or the selection appears to be limited, you
can change the time to see if more servers are available in that timeslot.
If a server cannot be agreed upon, players should use one of the GGL
servers.
In the event a fair GGL server is not proposed or a server cannot be
agreed upon, please deny the challenge and try again if desired.
The GGL does not provide official servers for the following titles which
are played on networks maintained by their respective game developers:

- Starcraft Broodwar which uses Battle.net for gameplay
- Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne which uses Battle.net for gameplay
- Age of Mythology: The Titans which uses ESO for gameplay.

For any of the above titles without GGL servers, please refer to your
ladder FAQ for instructions on how to play matches.

*B. International Match Guidelines*
In an international matchup, players / teams are encouraged to try and
find a reasonable server to play on before proposing a challenge.
Keep in mind that challenges are can only be made between 4:00 p.m.
-11:00 p.m. in the Challengee's time zone and international matchups may
be difficult to schedule depending on
In the playoffs, admins will determine the fairest procedure for any
international matchups on a case-by-case basis.

...
so most likely u'll end up playing on an american ggl server. :(
.. I still like the idea though *g

you right about the pings an thing. and as is a tourney i doh think they
would even allow pings over 100-200. but i guess tstt can sponsor us? like
we tell them we representing the mc country an we need some bandwidth iwmc.
and let them spend some extra bandwidth our way, a lil extra 1.5mbits in
each of the players mc. was just an idea oui , looks like it may not work
and plus we suppose to be practicing way before this tourney, team player an
thing iwmc.

he was running his server on a basic box.. I think 700MHz Athlon, 256 megs..
so nothing special.

upstream bandwidth limits the max. slots to 8-10 for onslaught and maybe
12 for ctf games on residential dsl
anyhow.

I wish my server would run properly.. but my setup here sux anyhow. :(

as I said.. mindless' server was running smooth and almost lag-free with
8 ppl.
residential dsl should be enough - unless - of course - tstt starts
capping the upstream. :)
