2V2 Strategies
« on: August 23, 2010, 10:40:45 AM »
The first entry is the sublime:

Zealot/Marine Rush

This strategy was used against VirtueTT and I in a 2v2 league game. We promptly adopted it as our own.

Here you can see the Marine side of the rush.

Basically, no gas....all out barracks and marines, rally to enemy base.

Protoss is the same, all out gateways, rally towards the enemy base.

Let the first units show themselves to panic the enemy (and to scout)

but the real attack begins when about 3-4 zeals and 4-6 marines are massed

There is usually nothing behind a ramp at that stage that could stop the rush. Zealots assault the ramp blockade while marines pick off defending units.

The constant stream of units making their way to the enemy base usually overwhelms them. If not, and they somehow manage to survive, they should be in a sufficiently defensive mode that you can continue to mass and tech up a bit to finish them off.

This defeats any early tech builds

It is susceptible to a rush. (comes down to who rushes/micros best)

Key to the build:

Terran goes 6 barracks (that's right, six)

Toss goes 3 gates. Be sure to save your ChronoBoosts to push zealots out as fast as possible.

Rally troops to enemy base.

Advanced Tip, share control so that one player can focus on using the attacking units in the enemy base while the other continues developing eco and pumping out marines/zeals to keep up the assault.

We've beaten diamond players with this, so though cheesy and noobie, it works.

Three Attachments,

First, the rush used against VirtueTT and myself

The second, our turn, using the rush against some hapless victims

Third, the rush against two zergs. (Generally not a good idea). Effectively defeated but it still had the effect of 1) Preventing them from early expanding and 2) Committing them to a lot of tier 1 units. Giving us the edge to expand, tech up and win.

and thats the strat ive been using to deal with the marine rushes
it really happens in a sort of text book way, as it happens in the video, ive had it done to me
so he counter works really well too
great strats abound

very important to not place your tech next to your nexus

Nice, gonna take in that vid now, got any replays to post showing it in action?

Ever used it to stop a 2v2 Marine/Zeal rush?

*edit*

Took in the vid

It's great in a 1v1 situation but I don't think that strat will stand up against 2v2 zeal/marines.

Stalkers without blink die to zeals, not to mention the zeals make for a perfect meat shield for the marine gunfire.

A toss player going stalkers will be easy pickings and very dependent on his partner for a bail out against the zeal/marine rush.

I do like how he delayed the attack of marines marauders by blinking into the base. Brilliant.

As well as that early observer, to let him know when to do the sneak attack. Again, brilliant.

It's hard to spare that $100 vespene early game for the obs, but it was sure worth it that time.
