Sony Cutting "OtherOS" Feature On PS3?!?!?!?!
« on: March 29, 2010, 05:12:50 PM »
Now although I never installed another operating system on my PS3, I had high hopes of using Linux in the future to... well... you know... 'tweak' the functionality a bit. 3.21 eliminates the "OtherOS" feature apparently to secure the PS3 (understandably so since George Hotz made something of a breakthrough in hacking it.) I'm somewhat disappointed, but ok... if they say so.

Installing Linux on the Ps3 is just fun for experimenting with it.
I did it...had fun...caused ps3 OS to lose control of Bluetooth lol. Fun fun.

For those hardcore users that run clusters of networked ps3's it's a big deal... But they won't be signing into psn anyway if they use it primarily for Linux and processing.

It sucks mostly for those who wanted to try the install, not so much for the casual gamer imo.

I am now wondering if I should have waited until after this update to try and play Bad Company 2 to see if it still crashed.  Oh well.  c'est la vie.

Agreed... agreed. I'd have had a little fun with it myself though. But have you noticed the PS3 running a little faster or anything like that with Other OS gone? Just curious.

Well according to this article some users are experiencing problems with their consoles.

Out of curiosity, anybody having these kinds of problems? I find it hard to believe that this update could cause such chaos.
