Russell Nigel Latapy gets the chance to inject his magic into the remainder of the Soca Warriors’ effort in the 2010 South Africa World Cup qualifying campaign having been named interim head coach yesterday. The appointment of the 40-year-old “Little Magician” as Latapy is fondly nicknamed, comes in the wake of the resignation of Colombia-born national coach, Francisco Maturana.Maturana and his technical staff handed in their resignations at a T&T Football Federation (T&TFF) emergency technical meeting chaired by T&TFF special advisor, Jack Warner, yesterday at his Concacaf, Port-of-Spain, office. The offer by Maturana to resign stemmed from differences of opinion regarding the way forward in the Fifa 2010 World Cup Qualification campaign for South Africa.Yugoslav-born Zoran Vranes, current coach of this country’s Under-20 team which has qualified to compete at the Fifa Under-20 World Cup between September 24 and October 16 has been named as Latapy’s assistant.
