Networking with our good friends at Blink....
« on: August 27, 2008, 08:33:30 PM »
Ok where do I start, as some would know from my "Gaming on a wireless network" thread I got myself a Linksys WRT54G.

Things went well, had the EasyLink setup cd, just followed the instructions and only had one hiccup and that was to change the IP of the
router to 192.168.2.1 since the Blink modem uses 192.168.1.1

Things worked well, was able to download stuff play games online etc. Then pops decided he was checking the UPS by the host comp and unplugged everything last week while I was on the comp in my room, talk about a WTF!! moment when I walked outside to see why I suddenly dropped connection.

That's when everything went @pe-$hite. For some reason I could not connect to the network anymore from my pc so I ended up doing over the whole network setup again.

I don't think I did anything wrong or differently since the internet is working fine, pages loading etc. What I noticed last week was that I couldn't connect to Xfire. Yes I re-installed it etc still didn't work.

I also realized that utorrent can't download anything, why? I haven't the foggiest. No I dont have windows firewall on any of the PCs..

I even plugged the modem directly to the pc and still xfire or utorrent won't work but webpages etc. will work fine.

It's really fustrating and I have no clue what to do...is there something in the Blink modem settings that  can be changed??

Really has me peeved...  :ko:

That has happened to me in the past, it happens when TSTT is doing upgrades/maintenance after a while everything should be working... hopefully.

Chances are when the power was disconnected the modem would have been reset. Also if TSTT was making changes (like the magical firewall enabling) when the modem rebooted and it re-established its connections and a new IP the settings took effect. I would say check the modem first, to see if the modem firewall didn't become enabled, baring that, call TSTT and ask them to REMOVE IT. Don't call and ask IF it's enabled, call and tell them you want it OFF. You'll need your pops driver permit # or whichever ID # was used to register the service. Or just get him to request it. Good luck.

OK after battling with a pira....I mean installing a new version of windows hehe. I am back online, if y'all aint see me you know what happened...

Called the peeps in India and found out that my firewall is back on....then it seems pops did not put his id number on the account so they can't verify that it is our account so the stinking firewall is gonna stay on until he goes in to tstt and update that info...STEUPS!!

On calling my brother who works in TSTT(yes we argue about his company alot) he informs me that a server upgrade was done on the weekend which most likely fiddle with ppls modem settings i.e turned back on dey firewall......

*UPDATE*

Firewall is now back off and I'm back on xfire etc yay for pops!!
