Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment announced with glee today its recent partnership with Travellers' Tales (creators of the Lego Star Wars series) to bring you Lego Batman: The Videogame, the latest in the Lego series of bite-sized action games. And this time, gamers will be able to use Lego representations of DC's Batman and Robin to fight crime on the streets of Lego Gotham City.
In the game, Batman's greatest foes have all escaped from Arkham Asylum, and it's up to the Dynamic Duo to stop them. Like previous Lego games, gameplay can be single-player or co-op, and gamers will also be able to explore the game's environments with not only the heroes, but with the villains as well. The playable characters will have access to the many vehicles within the Batcave and the many devices in Batman's utility belt - all of which, of course, will be used to defeat the likes of The Joker and The Penguin (or, at least, their Lego likenesses).
"Batman spans several generations as one of the most popular DC Super Heroes, and Lego Batman will appeal to several generations of gamers who grew up idolizing the Dark Knight and playing with Lego toys," said Samantha Ryan, Senior VP of Development and Production at WB Interactive Entertainment. "Working with TT Games, we are confident they will continue their Lego games' success with this title, and we will expand our publishing endeavors with the introduction of the Lego Batman franchise."
No definitive release date has been set for now, but the game plans to be released sometime in 2008 for both next and current-gen platforms, as well as PCs.
