Repair Troublems - Toshiba A135-2276, WTMC happen boy...
« on: November 30, 2007, 09:37:33 AM »
Ok heres the break down.

Sis on lappy yesterday, earth began moving, lappy screen conk out.

here are the symptoms:

1. comes on normal, post, only one intermittent error i noticed was sum to do with an over current on the USB, no USB devices were connected at the time though
2. some noise during start like static, from the speakers
3. if it does manage to boot past post, or hell, even IN post, the system freezes when you go to use the keyboard
4. sometimes it doh come on attall

initially i though it was the HDD (noise made me think it was the drive) but i decided to take another look at it, walk with my ubuntu disk to try to boot into live distro, nadda, wasnt hdd, removed hdd to make sure also, same thing.

i kinda stomped here, after everything else only think i could think of is power surge, as she was using it with adapter.

sigh...i dredding scrapping it, that thing have a million screws hoss, anybody with any lappy repair advice i welcome it even if you think i may have tried it already come with it anyway, i might have missed sum you never know..

thanks for any help fellas

sorry to hear of the delima. was any form of surge suppression being used at the time? i saw the lights in my office flicker briefly while the shaking, and i can just see that a surge IS possible during the E-Q.

likely a surge that helped fry your motherboard...

From my experience with 2 dead motherboards they give similar issues :  static coming from the speakers as the onboard sound is damaged ,

keyboard not responding , system refusing to boot up at times , will work fine on others.. , shutting down by itself for no reason..

Sounds like a surge to me, unless someone was using an EMP to cause the earthquake...O_o

I concur with the power surge theory.  I try not to EVER use mine without a portable, mini-suppressor.
TTEC power much too unreliable these days.
