Lego goes onlineWorld of BlockBuildingBy Wily Ferret: Friday 08 June 2007, 10:27THE LEGO GROUP has confirmed that a massively multiplayer online game set in the 'Lego Universe' is in development and set to hit virtual shelves by Christmas 2008.The game will obviously include plenty of customisation options, and could include the ability to build the world around you, quite literally. Social and community features will be present and correct, and this could make it the MMO community of choice for younger players not quite ready to hack and slash demons quite yet.Developers NetDevil were recently responsible for Auto Assault, a car-based MMO that garnered a luke-warm reception from gamers and critics alike. Lego is building on the success of the Star Wars Lego gaming franchise developed by Travelers Tales, which has seen gamers across the world use The Force to build little Lego bridges across chasms in Tatooine. The prospect of an entire world of Lego online - a 'Lego Land', if you will - is surely enough to make even hardened gamers salivate with memories of a youth lost in creativity, construction, and trying to find the one bloody bit you needed in a massive box full of parts which your mum told you to sort out into margarine tubs but you didn't get round to and oh I don't want the stupid Technics bits or the palm trees why can't I just find the arrrrrrrrghhhhh. µ
