Two configurations: 8GB and 16GB. The 8GB costs $299, while the 16GB will cost $399. Both models will be available this month.

I was hoping for like a 30GB or 80GB configuration.....
dammit man...

iPod Touch Second Gen FTW i guess....

(Prefer buy that new 160gb Ipod Video for $349 than buy that touchpod for $399...even if it does have internets... :P)

Apple has updated their website in sync with the announcement
> http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/

And a cid demonstrating the new iPod Touch is available...

Apple lines up new Ipods

Screws early adopters

By Wily Ferret: Thursday 06 September 2007, 07:48
APPLE revealed an entirely new lineup of Ipods last night - as well as a stonking $200 price cut for the Iphone, a move sure to aggravate those who paid full price merely days ago.

Speaking at the Moscone Centre - home to many a West Coast conference, including our old favourite, the Intel Developer Forum - Jobs rolled out new Itunes store features as well as the devices themselves. On the list:

A new Ipod nano, which now supports video on its 320x240 screen. It's tiny, has a high pixel density, and looks rather plump. Five pastel colours, 4 and 8GB.

The traditional Ipod is now renamed the Ipod classic, has a massive new 160GB option, and is now silver and black metal.

The much-predicted 'Iphone without the phone' also made an appearance in the guise of the Ipod touch. It's slightly thinner and shorter than the Iphone but has all the same music and video features, as well as WiFi browsing and YouTube. There are 8 and 16GB capacies.

Finally, the Iphone got a $200 price cut, going from $599 to $399 for the 8GB version, with the 4GB ugly step-sister being shunted out of the door.

Apple also unveiled the WiFi iTunes store, allowing music fans to purchase content, via WiFi, from their Ipod touch or Iphone, then sync it back to the computer. This was announced in collaboration with Starbucks, which will allow purchasing of music currently playing in the coffeehouse you're sat in, as well as free WiFi access to the store whilst in a Starbucks cafe.

Reaction has been mixed - analysts knocked a few percent of the stock price last night amid fears that Iphone is not proving as much a success as hoped for, with the price cut likely knocking out all of Apple's profit margin and leaving Iphone revenue purely as the AT&T subscription kick back. Fans have flocked to the Ipod touch, but derision for the nano 'phatty' is amost universal. Who wants to watch video on such a tiny screen?

Of course, those who are most irate are the Apple fanboys, the early adopters - the ones who stood in line for days to pick up an Iphone, only to be screwed to the tune of $200 mere weeks after the event. We always knew Jobs was a ruthless customer, but messing with your own fanboys is taking it to a whole new level.

At laugh at those poor early iPhone adopters... 200USD... OUCH!! that has got to sting

These days, who has just one phone? iPhone serving as your ipod and phone and you have another phone there just in case...sounds better than good to me. I just wish they would release an iPhone with a higher MP camera. is for sure I getting one now.

OMG This WTF BLOWS... and NOT in a good way...

AT&T is cruising for a bruising

But then the Baby Bells are gonners, init?!?

By Nick Farrell: Monday 10 September 2007, 07:53
A HUMAN called Jay Levy says he has been stung by Apple's iPhone pact with AT&T after he took an Iphone on a Mediterranean cruise.

They didn't use their phones, but when they got back they had a 54-page monthly bill of nearly $4,800 from AT&T Wireless.

The problem was that their three Iphones were racking up a bill for data charges using foreign phone charges. The Iphone regularly updates e-mail, even while it's off, so that all the messages will be available when the user turns it on.

Levy is fuming, claiming that Apple and AT&T were acting like a bank which has automatic access to your ATM machine and is siphoning money out during all times of the day and night.

Normally it does not cost US users for domestic data transfers, but the Iphone's international plan in 29 countries, mostly in Europe, costs $24.99 for 20 megabytes.

Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris points out in its terms and conditions that it will cost an arm an a leg to use an Iphone out of the US even if no services are intentionally used.

Dread the LEVEL CUSS SOMEONE would have gotten for this mess... GG!!! :protest:

Well. That last sentence really makes me secure about using AT&T and Apple products now. Knowing that I'm paying a very substantial something for a very nominal nothing -unintentionally- definitely does a lot for my confidence in the company.

Ugh. That's definitely a cruising for a bruising. Heck, if it literally turns to that, I won't blame the guy for being p.o.ed.

Here is a player (with touch screen also) that is so much more practical than this 'new' iPod, but as usual,
everyone gets bamboozled by the hype and wastes their money on Apple products.
Techies will tell you that iPods LOOK nice, but are WAY behind most other MP3 players in terms of functionality, features and useability.

iPod touch?  How about Apple not ever 'touching' my wallet.
