HARD DRIVES are being killed off by air conditioners, according to a data recovery outfit.

Ben Carmitchel, president of ESS Data Recovery said that his company is run off its feet in summer months and it is not because air conditioners are allowing computers to overheat.

He told Associated Content that he sees a 20 per cent increase in failed hard drives hitting our lab in the summer because of the power surges caused by air conditioners.

Air conditioners increase the electricity usage in a house by 50 per cent and this additional strain can cause dangerous power surges and outages that damage computers. Thunderstorms can also threaten data during the warmer months too, he said. µ

NOT good news to my ears....I was really thinking of putting aircon in my house to counter the heat (if your roof is concrete, you know what I'm going thru!)

ent!!! I not paying all that hard earned cash for an Uber rig, just to have some dirty current wreck it all...

And these days, is all kinda 500 - 750 KVA UPS I looking to buy... And it must come with voltage regulation (to save me having to buy a Line Conditioner as well)

I'm shocked you'd even THINK such a thing. I didn't show you my 3 years old APC 750VA UPS under the table. Has worked like a good pet. I need a new battery for it though.

I won't mess around with an investment like that.
