Yeah, AMD has been slashing prices like CRAZY lately... it's a necessary evil... I mean slashing processor prices by up to 45% is RIDICULOUS and hurts your bottom line immensely... however Intel is really pushing the price war and since they have the performance crown AMD has to do the sensible thing which is cut prices to make it competitive. I do like that we the consumer are benefiting... however i'd rather have slightly higher prices on BOTH sides to maintain respectable margins and ensure that there is sufficient funds for propr R&D cause let's face it, if AMD goes belly up, intel will stick us with SLOW updates, OLD tech and high prices.... we don't want to go BACK to that.

I'm not worried.

AMD maintained low prices for a decade under a better performing intel.

They didn't go belly up then.

They have had a few good years as king of the hill to fatten their pockets. Returning to a "value" option for a bit shouldn't see the company die. (crosses fingers)

I agree with W1ntry here, because even in the face of these price cuts, AMD has already hinted that they will
miss their 1st-quarter projected revenues.

Not cool.

Well that's true. Barcelona and R600 are a bit late. Due to lots of expenditure i'm sure. But even so, as I said, I rather have higher prices and proper R&D than to be relegated back to waiting long perionds for INCREMENTAL updates and high prices. If yuh wanna laugh, yuh could laugh at the fact that had you bought a DAAMIT rig, you woulda stay BELOW your 9k limit :p NOW THAT'S FUNNY. That aside, anyone realize that regardless of the rig you build today, performance is still REALLY good? intel/daamit/nvidia/etc. If you use the same price regardless of platform, the performance you get is GREAT! what a nice time we live in (in that respect not MANY others). I'm pretty happy with my 939 rig and non DX10 card (since nvidia can't get their DX10 part working properly on DX10 yet :p) and I look forward to whatever is the latest greatest in a 2 yrs when I ready to upgrade. That being said, if I HAD to upgrade now, i'd look at a fast end DAAMIT rig, or a mid level Intel rig (since thats the platform skew based on price).

Just read this earlier today.

Here's the real juicy part of an article on X-bit Labs

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/dualcore-roundup_8.html
X-bit labs - Articles - April Confrontation: AMD and Intel Start the Price War ( page 8 )

The Price-Performance graph is especially interesting to consider.
