Hollywood bigwig woos games geeksHave game developer, will produce movie contentBy INQUIRER newsdesk: Tuesday 27 March 2007, 16:04A HOLLYWOOD movie mogul is poised to set up a new games development studio that could rival some of the biggest names in the business.Thomas Tull was recently a producer on the box-office smash 300, a film about a load of almost naked blokes engaging in lots of homo-erotic tomfoolery whilst kicking the butts of a rather haughty invading lot - not exactly a recipe for success in modern America, one would think. The new studio Tull has created, dubbed 'Brash entertainment', says that it will be producing the PC tie-in of that film.In fact, it will be looking to do a number of film tie-ins over the next five years, with Bruce Ellis, Tull's partner in crime, saying that "The safest, most lucrative way to sell a video game is in tandem with some kind of movie that is already heavily marketed." Ellis hopes to release between 60 and 100 games over the coming half-decade.Video game tie-ins are, of course, in big business, with EA one of the biggest licencees. Its Harry Potter franchise rakes in big bucks for the minimum amount of development work. The business goes all the way back to the bad old days of Ocean Software's numerous Robocop and Rambo travesties.Tull's dev house has got $150 million of backing behind it, no doubt from rich Hollywood mates. Tull has recently produced Superman Returns, The Ant Bully and is an Executive Producer on the upcoming World or Warcraft movie. But we rather suspect he's missed the boat for the game tie-in to that one.
