personally resolution doh really mater to me i still play at 800x600. why is resolution so important any way, not looking for a fight eh jedi i just wonderin

Lol why is resolution so important? Each resolution has a certain number of pixels associated with it. The higher the resolution, the more pixels on the screen. The more pixels that make up an image, the better it looks.

I've read that the 8800 series has PCIe issues. Apparently its not PCIe certified (yet) and ppl all over have been reporting the card failing to boot as its not compatible with their mobo. So to those out there interested in this card, i'd suggest reading up on incompatibility issues before you buy. That aside, yeah... it makes next to NO sense to buy a 8800series card to run @ 1024x768. You'd be better off waiting until there is a 8600 series card cause the ONLY reason other than ridiculous resolution with all the eye-candy on would be DX10.

The DX10 spec is obviously a mistake. Jetway is a brand that used to be a prolific manufacturer of nvidia boards long time, however I haven't seen much of them in the high end maket lately, nor do I think I have ever seen them manufacture ATI boards either.

Nvidia's Geforce G86 gets its specs

Geforce 8600 Ultra and GT

Click here to find out more!
OUR friends in the Far East managed to get all the dirty details about G83 and G86. The first to come is Geforce 8600 and it will have Ultra and GT version. The ultra brand is back in business. Both chips are made at a 80 nanometre process and Nvidia managed to shrink them down.

The Geforce 8600 Ultra supports 64 Stream processors and works at 500 MHz core and 1400 MHz memory. It has 256 Mbit memory controller and 256 or 512 MBs of memory. This depends of the Vendor specific designs. Its estimated retail price is suppose to settle around $179 but we recon it will sell for 20 more.

Geforce 8600 GT - again a mainstream chip - will end up with 48 stream processors and 350 MHz core clock. The memory will work at 1200 MHz and the card will have 256 bit memory controller and 128MB or 256 MB of ram. It should sell for $149 and this is a good price for DirectX10 part.

This card will replace 7900GTs and GS and 7600 cards. These cards are scheduled for February announcement if not March but the chips are already sampled.

NVIDIA plans to bring more DirectX 10 parts to market.

After the G86 hits the mainstream there will be a place for an entry level card. We also call this the low end market and these cakes sell the best. This chip is scheduled for a summer introduction.

It gets the Geforce 8300 brand and it is again 80 nanometre chip. The faster one is called Geforce 8300 GT. It has 32 stream processors - one quarter of the Geforce 8800 GTX. It works at 500MHz and the memory works at 1200MHz. The card uses 128 Bit Mbit memory controller. There will be two configurations one supporting 256MB while the second supports 128MB of memory.

Depending on the memory size, these cards will be priced between $89 and $99 George Washingtons.

The slower card, the Geforce 8300 GS, is again 80 nanometre card with 24 stream processors. Its funny that no one talks about fixed pipelines anymore. The core works at 500 MHz while the memory clocks at 1000 MHz. the card uses the same 128 bit memory interface and supports between 128 and 256 MBs of memory. It will end up priced between $69 and $79. It will run some DirectX 10 games but don’t expect top performance from it.

hmm, interesting price point for the 8600gt.
comparable to 7900gt but dx 10 for close to same price as 7900gt

so iam guessing price drop on 7900gt
