Shader ???

I've been installing some games recently and on some i've gotten errors ....something about my vidcard doesnt support shaders ....can someone explain to me what this is...and is there any possible way to get past this?

What card are you using.. has to be kinda old/low tech to not support shader. In this case I would have to assume it is refering to pixel and vertex shaders... what game was it? we need more details to properly diagnose your problem.

Yes the card is lame VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP
Game was Just Cause

but is there anything that can be done to bypass this chek for shaders and go straight into the game or is it neccesary for the game to run

The bad news...there's nothing you can do with that current card to get that game to run...shaders are a necessary part of the game to render, so das a real hard luck. It's kinda like when games first started to require hardware T&L...yuh card either conduc yuh scene...or not.

The good news...ummm...now yuh have a reason to upgrade?

S3 is ON-BOARD graphics for those who dont know.  Can't even run VIDEO decently on that. 
You will definitely need a video-card, and dont diss your pops son.  Be thankful he was able to buy
you a computer in the 1st place.  I couldnt own one until i was workin for quite a few years as a big man.

So have some respect.  You wouldnt want him reading this thread now, would you?

that wud neva happen..........the thing is he bought the parts separately to build the pc and i told him exactly wat i wanted over the phone while he was in the place.......it cant be helped....

not bad at all...GTA SA and XMEN legends looked the the same on my neighbours PC...He has Gforce4 256(nuh sure bout details)

Yes, as Arc said, that s3 is onboard video. Most likely, you board has an agp slot, in which case i have an AGP Nvidia 6800 for sale...check the trading grounds thread. It runs Just Cause beautifully.

Shaders are units on the card that compute vertex movements en mass (in the case of vertex shaders - think of having tons of the same looking objects, movement/vertices all computed by the vidcard) or in the case of textures and lighting effects (pixel shaders), It's work done on the card instead of by the cpu. Water effects for example are a simple shader. Lot of originally non shader games implemented (e.g. unreal tournament 2004, Morrowind) this after they were originally made. The "water" was simply a functional textue - look at the edge, and you'd see it's flat and unmoving, but the effect was great. Dx9 permitted much more complex effects such as HDR lighting.
